Tennessee, also known as the “Volunteer State”, is located in the southeastern part of the country and is the 17th most populated of all the states. Founded in 1961 by the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia Congregation, Aquinas College is a private, Roman Catholic, liberal arts college located in Nashville Tennessee. Aquinas originated as a novitiate normal school for young women who had not yet taken vows to the Dominican religious order. The college has more than 2,000 students and offers over 60 majors, awarding bachelor’s and master’s level degrees in a range of areas. Master of Management – Healthcare Administration Concentration

The Master of Management program provides a curriculum that examines both strategic managerial issues with an emphasis on cultural and behavioral aspects

Austin Peay State University

The College of Graduate Studies

Founded in 1927, Austin Peay State University is a public coed university located in Clarksville Tennessee. Current enrollment at Austin Peay is over 9,200 students on the 169 main campus making it one of the fastest-growing universities in Tennessee. Academics at the university are organized into six colleges and two schools and all programs use a semester-based academic calendar. Master of Science in Management

The curriculum for the Master of Science (MS) in Management program provides students with core business knowledge required for to succeed with exceptional business and leadership preparation for students with little or no business experience. Completion of the program requires 30 credits, consisting of seven required courses plus three electives for students with a non-business undergraduate degree and students with a business undergraduate degree are required six required courses and four electives. The management program is available in a traditional classroom format or in a completely online format through the main campus. Students in the full-time program can complete the program in just one year. The MSM program offers students the opportunity to continue or pursue a career in corporate finance, entrepreneurship, healthcare management, healthcare system improvement, human resource management, international business, leadership, marketing, project management, risk management, strategies for sustainability, and technology management.

Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Nursing Informatics

The curriculum for the Master of Science in Nursing Administration (MSN) with a specialization in Nursing Administration and Nursing Informatics is available in a flexible 36 to 46-credit program. Students have the opportunity to customize their program to fit their career goals and needs and can pursue the MSN program in full-time or part-time study and coursework (with the exception of clinical rotations) are available in an online format. Graduates of the MSN are prepared with the following abilities:

  • Teaching in varied academic and practice settings
  • Providing advanced nursing care to rural, urban, and underserved populations

Belhaven University

Online Campus

Founded in 1883, Belhaven University is a private Christian coed university with its main campus located in Memphis Tennessee. Belhaven maintains satellite campuses for undergraduate and graduate study in Atlanta, Houston, Memphis and Orland as well as through their online campus. The program is available in an online format or a traditional classroom format. Students in this program are given a fundamental understanding of business principles including Ethics in Business, Organizational Behavior, Financial Analysis, and Legal environment in Business, Economics, Marketing, Principles of Executive Leadership, Human Resource Management, and Strategic Leadership, and requires completion of a capstone course. In addition to core MBA courses students in the program can opt to choose a specific area of specialization from the following: Leadership, Human Resources, Health Administration or Sports Administration. The MBA with Health Administration Concentration requires 42 credits for completion with classes offered one night per week. The program is available in an online format or a traditional classroom format.

The Graduate Business School

Founded in 1871 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers (a catholic teaching order), Christian Brothers University is a four-year, coed private university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. Healthcare Master of Business Administration

This MBA program is specifically tailored for working professionals who are interested in staying competitive in the continually changing and globally expanding business world. The 35-credit MBA program includes 11 (3 credit) courses and orientation taken in sequential order, one course at a time. Public Health Policy Concentration – examines concepts in underlying federal entitlement programs, private sector health benefit programs, alternative health policy approaches, potential insurance reforms, tax policy as it relates to health care insurance, tax credits versus deductions, and federal regulation of prices for and supply of services.

Strategic Planning and Management of Healthcare Systems Concentration – provides a study of the operational management of interrelated systems, inpatient and outpatient systems and the future of all existing delivery systems given the new political realities as well as the existing and potential future economic conditions of the U.S, within a global economy.

Human and Legal Aspects of Healthcare Management Concentration– allows students to understand potential legal problems in various healthcare settings, identify the issues and rights implicated, and propose solutions. Subject areas include professional relationships, professional liability, licensing, confidentiality, informed consent, access issues, and antitrust.

The Labry School of Science, Technology and Business

Founded in 1842 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Cumberland University is a private coed university located in Lebanon Tennessee. Current enrollment is over 1,300 students on the 44-acre main campus. The 36 credit Master of Business Administration with Healthcare Elective provides courses both on-site and online to allow flexibility for working students. On-site courses are available on the university’s main campus in Lebanon and the MBA program offers courses available completely online, and hybrid courses (combining on-line courses with traditional classroom instruction). Competencies for graduates of the program include the following abilities:

The 3-credit Health Care Management concentration provides students with an overview of the US health care delivery system and how health care issues are influencing the economy in the US today. After completing the course, students will understand and identify various components making up the health care system and terminology associated with it as well as to understand their interactions and economic implications. Graduates will be able to identify the various components of the system and their associated terminology and understand their dynamic interactions and economic implications. Students in the program can concente on specific areas of interest undertaking individual and team papers and presentations.

East Tennessee State University

The Department of Public Health

Founded in 1911, East Tennessee State University (also referred to as East Tennessee) is an accredited American coed university located in City, Tennessee. The school is part of Tennessee’s Board of Regents system of colleges and universities, and is the fourth largest university in the state. Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health curriculum prepares students to address major public health problems existing today. The coursework for the program provides the skills and knowledge, essential to enter careers as public health leaders including critical thinking skills, interdisciplinary approaches required to problem solve public health issues, and a commitment to self-directed, lifelong learning. The MPH program requires four components: the MPH core, concentration courses, elective courses, and a required culminating experience. There are five concentrations available for MPH students to tailor their education to meet their specific career goals and include:

  1. The Concentration in Biostatistics curriculum provides students with the skills to collect, manage, and analyze public health data. Coursework provides a study of basic analytical methods and the use of statistical software as well as various population-based health intervention strategies and how to administer and evaluate them. Biostatistics students are prepared to enter careers in government, industry, and academia.
  2. The Concentration in Community Health allows students to interact with communities providing health education and promotion; how to develop and conduct health assessments and program evaluations; and why it is essential to establish collaborative organizational and positive community partnerships
  3. The Environmental Health concentration allows students to better understand interrelationships existing between chemical, biological, and physical factors in the environment, and social or organizational factors in the human community. Students gain the skills and knowledge to assess community environmental health needs by collecting, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data, and to develop proficiency to investigate, monitor, and manage, environmental problems impacting public health. This degree is offered in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Health.
  4. The Concentration in Epidemiology provides a study of the basic science of public health. Epidemiologists study disease, illness, and injuries and in order to determine: who becomes ill, why specific people are more likely to become ill, and ways to prevent the spread of illness. Coursework investigates patterns and causes of disease and injury in humans in an attempt to reduce the risk and occurrence of negative health outcomes through research, community education, and health policy.
  5. Health Services Concentration provides a multi-disciplinary study with a focus on the accessibility, financing, and organization of healthcare services and development and implementation of public health policy.

The MPH program prepares graduates to competently pursue their career paths or further their education. Students have various opportunities to participate in on-going research projects and community service activities.
