Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration

The Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration curriculum prepares students with the skills and knowledge to expand their job responsibility and advance to administrative roles. Coursework is offered completely online or as a combined program with classes meeting on campus one evening per week. Most part time students complete the program in a little as two years. Full time students can complete the program in as little as one year. The MBA program requires completion of 24 core business courses, including Management in a Changing World, Accounting, Financial Management, Organizational Behavior, Marketing, Leadership and Change, Integrating Faith and Business and Strategic Decision Making. The Healthcare Administration emphasis requires 12 credits of coursework from the following: Human Resources Management, Economics, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or Nonprofit Leadership.

Master of Science in Nursing with Nurse Educator Emphasis

The curriculum for the Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nurse Educator prepares students with the skills and knowledge required to enter nursing-education roles in setting including:

  • College/university nursing programs
  • Hospital education departments
  • Other areas of community health-education

The MSN program is offered completely online for the Nurse Educator emphasis. The program requires completion of 38 credits including the following: 14 credits of Core Coursework including Theoretical Concepts of Nursing, Health Promotion Across the Lifespan, Nursing Research, Healthcare Policy and a required capstone course. The concentration in Nurse Educator required completion of 24 credits including: Technology and the Educator, Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Pharmacology, Health Assessment, Nursing Curriculum Design, Classroom Instruction and Evaluation and a required Educator Role Practicum and a Nurse Educator Clinical Emphasis.

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration dual degree program in offered in conjunction with the Department of Business and the School of Nursing. Curriculum for the dual degree program provides BSN’s with the skills and knowledge in Healthcare leadership, Nursing and Business. The emphasis of the dual program is Christ Centered for leadership, management and for research in the healthcare sector. Graduates of the program will enter careers influencing Healthcare policy and the future of nursing. Students must be accepted into both the School of Nursing and the School of Business to enter the program. Most students complete coursework for one degree at a time. Nursing courses meet on Tuesdays and MBA Courses meet one evening per week. Students can elect to pursue their education in a part time or full time format depending on their availability. Both degrees are available completely online, on campus or in a combination of both formats.

Founded in 1915 as Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, Tennessee Technological University (known as Tennessee Tech) is a coed public university located in Cookeville, Tennessee. The university is located approximately 70 miles east of Nashville. Tennessee Tech current enrollment is more than 10,00 students on the 235 acre main campus. The university offers students 44 bachelor’s degree programs, 20 graduate programs and doctoral degrees in the fields of education, engineering and environmental science. Master of Professional Studies with Healthcare Administration

The 33-credit Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Healthcare Administration provides students with a study of the relationship between health care, information technology and leadership. Coursework for the program prepares graduates for entering challenging and rewarding careers enhancing the quality of care, reducing health care costs, and addressing health care issues. The program also contains a certification in Healthcare Informatics. Graduates of the program will have the skills to make ethical decisions, analyze data, and have a deeper understanding of the current health care delivery system. Focus for the program is providing students the opportunity to develop their skills in healthcare, leadership, informatics, research, and administration in the various components of healthcare delivery systems. The MPS Healthcare Administration program is available in an online format, on campus, and hybrid (combining both online and on campus classes) to provide flexibility for busy professionals.

Whitson-Hester School of Nursing

Tennessee Technological University was established in 1915 and began on the campus that had belonged to Dixie College, a private institution founded in 1911. Tennessee Technological University’s mission (as stated by the university) is “providing leadership and outstanding programs in engineering, the sciences, and related areas to benefit the people of Tennessee and the nation.” The university provides programs in the arts and sciences, business, education, agriculture and human ecology, nursing, music, art, and interdisciplinary studies. In 2016, US News and World Reports ranked Tennessee Technological University as the 35th best Southern Regional University. The Whitson-Hester School of Nursing offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) and offers Masters degrees (MSN) and post-Masters certificates in Nursing in conjunction with the Regents Online Degree Program.

Master of Science in Nursing Administration

The Master of Science in Nursing Degree (MSN) is offered through a consortium of six Tennessee Board of Regents universities and prepares nurses with the following skills:

The concentration in Nursing Administration provides a flexible learning environment for students to gain a core foundation in complex systems, organizational theory, financial management and leadership practice. The concentration is designed for those students who aspire toward careers managing healthcare personnel and business operations predominately in a hospital or large service provider setting. Applicants must be Licensed Registered Nurses with a Bachelors Degree. The program requires completion of 36 credits and required completion of a 4 credit Nursing Administration practicum.

Nursing Informatics Certificate Program

The 23 credit Nursing Informatics Certificate program provides master’s level nurses training to assume careers in healthcare informatics. Curriculum for the program provides the core foundation in information management applicable to varied healthcare settings. Upon completion of the certificate program, master’s level nurses are prepared to sit for the national certification exam in nursing informatics. The nursing informatics certificate is an excellent path for those nurses whom already holding a master’s degree but want to pursue a specialization to gain marketability without having to complete a second master’s degree.

The School of Nursing

Founded in 1823, Union University is a private coed university with a main campus located in Jackson Tennessee and additional campus locations in Germantown and Hendersonville. Fogelman College of Business and Economics

Founded in 1912, the University of Memphis is a public university that is located in Memphis Tennessee. It has a current undergraduate enrollment of more than 17,000 students on the 1600-acre main campus. University of Memphis students can participate in than 200 campus organizations that include more than 25 fraternities and sororities as well as sports teams. Master of Business Administration in Health Systems Pharmacy

The Professional MBA program is designed for full-time professionals need flexibility in learning styles the availability to take classes part-time to accommodate their schedule. Students may also enroll on a full time basis. Classes are available in the evening and a minimum of one year of full-time work experience is required for admission. Students can additionally choose one of the four approved concentrations including a specialization in Health Systems Pharmacy. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook states that the average mean salary annually in May 2015 for Healthcare was over $106,000 with the top 10 percent earning over $165,000 per year. With over two hundred health care fields to choose from, allied health workers make up sixty percent of the health care workforce in the United States. Although health care administrators and managers generally are required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s level degree to work in healthcare management, those with master’s degrees will have more ability to enter higher-level management careers. With changes in treatment and technology, growth in the population an aging population, the demand for healthcare will continue to grow.
