Widener University is a private university located in the outskirts of Philadelphia. The school was originally founded in 1821 as the Bullock School for Boys. In the mid-19th century, the school was transformed into a military academy, and then later a military college. It wasn’t until the late 20th century that the school developed a non-military curriculum and changed its name to honor heiress and Titanic survivor Eleanor Elkins Widener.

The long history of Widener University has allowed it to serve a wide range of notable alums. Director Cecil B. DeMille attended the school when it was known as Pennsylvania Military College. Frederick E. Humphries, the first American military pilot, also attended the school when it was Pennsylvania Military College. Widener University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The healthcare management MBA is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Widener University Application Requirements

Widener University accepts about half of all students who apply. The university does not have a specific set of guidelines for admission. However, the school does require high school transcripts and ACT or SAT test scores to be submitted along with the application. Most Widener University students have a high school GPA of at least 3.4 and an ACT of 20 or higher.

Those applying to the healthcare management MBA program at Widener University have specific steps they must take to be accepted. The application must be completed online with a fee of $35. Other materials required include a personal statement, resume, two letters of recommendation, official transcripts from all previous schools and GRE or GMAT test scores.

Students should have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.7. The GMAT score must be 450 or higher unless the applicant has at least five years of work experience, an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.3 or a separate master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Fewer requirements are needed to be admitted to the healthcare management certificate program. Students simply need to complete the application, provide the fee and show proof of completing a four-year degree with a GPA of at least 2.7.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Students who attend the online campus to study for an MBA are charged at a rate of $1,004 for each credit hour. Certificate classes accrue a similar charge as master-level courses. Business certificates can be earned with a rate of $1,040 in tuition per credit hour.

These charges may not include certain fees, including technology, general fees, books, and supplies.
