Healthcare Management at the University of Oklahoma

Students interested in studying healthcare management and related areas at the University of Oklahoma have three program options at the main campus in Norman, as well as at the College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. Degree and program options include a Master of Health Administration, an MBA Healthcare Administration Certificate, and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration/Management that also offers the option of a certificate in healthcare management.
For students who want to enroll in the MBA Healthcare Administration Certificate, applications should be made to the Gene Rainbolt Graduate School of Business. The certificate is a collaboration between the university’s College of Public Health and the Price College of Business. The faculty in the program possess Masters of Healthcare Administration degrees.
Required courses in the program include U.S. Healthcare System and the choice of three courses from a list of five options. Those options include Healthcare Quality Management, Financial Management of Health Services organizations, and Health Economics. Other choices include Managed Care & Integrated Delivery Systems and Health Information Systems.
The second option in healthcare management for students at the University of Oklahoma is the Master of Health Administration, which is offered by the Hudson College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. Students must complete a total of 60 credits to earn their MHA and will take classes like Financial Management of Health Service Organizations, Health Care Quality Management, and Professional Communication.
The MHA program is designed to take students two years to complete if full-time enrollment is pursued. Alternatively, students may choose the Master of Science in Nursing: Administration Management degree program, which is administered by the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing. Students must complete 33 semester hours for the MSN program, or 18 credit hours for the Post-Master Certificate in Administration Management.
Topics covered in the university’s healthcare administration and management programs include historical practices in healthcare, financing, and governance in healthcare, healthcare legislation, and healthcare operations. Students will also consider the challenges present in the modern healthcare environment and the effect of technology on healthcare.

The University of Oklahoma was founded in 1880 and was established before the State of Oklahoma was admitted to the Union. The main campus is in Norman, and the large school of more than 31,000 students has more than 3,000 faculty members employed as educators. The university’s official colors are cream and crimson, and the sports teams are nicknamed the Sooners in their NCAA Division I games.
The university has a popular and successful gymnastics program with students winning more than ten national championships in the 2000s and 2010s. University of Oklahoma Accreditation Details
The Higher Learning Commission has accredited the University of Oklahoma at the regional and institutional levels. The HLC accredits schools in 19 states across the central region of the United States, which includes more than 900 institutions of higher learning. Accreditation is voluntary, but it allows the university to award degrees and students enrolled at the institution to participate in the federal student loan program.
Many of the university’s programs are additionally accredited by specialized agencies. University of Oklahoma Application Requirements
All students who submit an application to the University of Oklahoma undergo a comprehensive review of their application materials in what the university calls a holistic approach to admission. Some of the factors considered include high school GPAs, the student’s application essay, and academic letters of recommendation. The admissions team will also consider the student’s leadership experience, non-school accomplishments, and community involvement.
Students can obtain assured admission if they meet one of three criteria. Those criteria include having an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 and a rank of 33.3% in the student’s graduating class or achieving a 24 on the ACT or 1160 on the SAT or better. Students with a minimum 3.0 GPA in 15 core academic units who also obtain a minimum 21 on the ACT or 1060 on the SAT are also eligible for assured admission.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The University of Oklahoma estimates that a student who enrolls in 30 credits over two semesters in an undergraduate program will pay $11,762.50 if they’re residents of Oklahoma or $27,143.50 if they’re not residents of the state. Students can also enroll in a flat-rate tuition plan, which has some mandatory fees included with the tuition. Residents will pay $2,394.00 for flat rate tuition, as well as $2,010.75 for mandatory fees for a total of $4,404.75.
For flat-rate tuition, out-of-state students will pay an additional $7,690.50 for out-of-state tuition fees. Some of the fees include an academic excellence fee, assessment fee, facility fee, and an activity fee. Students may also pay a special event fee, security services fee, and a records fee. Students who want to study at the graduate level will pay tuition based on the program they choose and can contact the campus bursar’s office for specific rates.
Financial aid is handled at the University of Oklahoma by the Student Financial Aid Center, which is on the Normal campus and offers scholarships, grants, loans, and other aid programs. Each year, students who want to qualify for financial aid should submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when the option becomes available in October.
To qualify for scholarships from the university, students will fill out a special application to the university that must be submitted between October 1 and February 1 each year. Students may qualify for the Work Assistance Tuition Waiver or the Scholarship Transfer to Health Sciences Center when they submit their institutional aid application to the University of Oklahoma.
