The University of Cincinnati appears in our ranking of the Top 30 Best Online RN to BSN Programs.

The College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati offers an RN to BSN degree program online that helps registered nurses get their bachelor’s degrees. Students take one capstone course that runs for 14 weeks and other classes that end after seven weeks. This allows them to take twice as many courses as they would in a traditional nursing program. They can graduate in nine months as a full-time student or in three semesters as a part-time student. The nursing classes they take include Nurses as Professional Leader and Manager, Learning with Technology, Focus on Community and Gerontological Nursing Practice.

Graduate students in the university’s Master of Health Administration (MHA) program can take classes in Cincinnati or online. This is a part-time program that students can complete at the same time that they work in a health care facility. It features two introduction courses called Health Systems Management I: Organization and Delivery and Health Systems Management II: Principles of Leadership. Depending on the experience and degrees that they have, the university may waive these required courses. Nine other required classes in the program include Health Care Finance: Decision Making, Health Policy: Legal and Ethical Issues and Health Quality: Evidence-Based Decision Making for Managers. MHA students will also take two capstone classes.

A Master of Health Informatics (MHI) is also available from the University of Cincinnati. This program is fully online and has six start dates that students can choose from each year. Students take 36 credits of classes and can graduate in 36 months. A practicum requirement asks students to spend 15 hours working in the field each week to complete a total of 210 hours of fieldwork. They will also need to take specialized courses that include Project and Program Management, Database Modeling and Design and Advanced Health Data Analytics. The University of Cincinnati also offers graduate certificate programs in fields that include Health Care Policy and Regulation and Health Care Administration.

About the University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati is a public university in Cincinnati, Ohio that is the oldest campus in the city. Established in 1819, it used a donation from the founder of the Medical College of Ohio to build its first campus. Called the Cincinnati College, it shared its campus with the medical college. The Cincinnati College and Law College opened a few years later and became part of the Cincinnati Law School. These two campuses would come together in 1893 and become the new University of Cincinnati, which moved to a new location in the city. It would also acquire other schools and add programs in music and pharmacy technology.

Now known as UC, the university has a main campus in Cincinnati that consists of three separate branches. The Victory Parkway Campus is in Walnut Hills, which is one of the oldest and most historic neighborhoods in Cincinnati. Clermont College in Batavia is home to UC East, while Blue Ash College serves as a regional branch of the university. UC Online is a recent addition to the university. It now offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs and accepts students from all around the world. Enrollment at all those campuses combined comes to more than 45,000 students.

University of Cincinnati Accreditation Details

UC can give students financial aid packages that include federal and state funds because it has regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). That accreditation allows any student to use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It also has accreditation from the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIME).

University of Cincinnati Application Requirements

The university’s RN to BSN program accepts applications through July first for the fall semester. The program also has deadlines of November first and March first for the spring and summer sessions. Students must have some nursing experience and a nursing degree with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. They will need to complete the UC online application and pay the application fee before supplying their transcripts and copies of their licenses. UC requires that RN to BSN nurses have a nursing license that is in good standing from any state.

Any student who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited school can apply to the university’s MHA program. The application that they fill out asks them for the names and addresses of the student’s three references. UC asks for references who are familiar with the student’s education, work experience, and communication skills. They will also need to pay the $65 application fee and submit a resume and letter of intent. UC has the same application requirements for both online and residential MHA students. Those applying to the university’s MHI program must meet the same requirements.

Students who are not from Ohio will pay $501 per credit hour as a part-time student or $6,010 per semester as a full-time student. Graduate students in the MHA program pay a flat $747 per credit hour for part-time enrollment and do not need to pay any nonresident fees. The MHI graduate program charges the same rates for full-time and part-time students.

UC accepts military benefits such as the GI Bill and has financial aid counselors who can help students find out which benefits they can use. Once a student submits the FAFSA, the university can work out a financial aid package that may include grants, scholarships, and loans. Multiple academic scholarships go to graduate students and RN to BSN students who have a strong academic background, including the UC National Outreach Award and the Cincinnati Pathways Scholarship. Students accepted into any of the University of Cincinnati health administration and management programs who need more help can apply for a payment plan.
