Post-Grad UCSF Pathways into Healthcare Management

Since August 2013, the University of California San Francisco has offered 24/7 Moodle access to a 12-month MS in Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership under Dr. Lucy Fisher that requires only three campus trips plus two worksite practicum terms for ACHE credentials. Chaired by Dr. Dennis Black, the 36-unit MAS in Clinical Research immerses cohorts of 5-15 in 19 months of rigorous scientific inquiries at state-of-the-art labs like the Division of Infectious Diseases. The MS in Global Health led by Dr. Madhavi Dandu follows a 42-unit, four-quarter Mission Bay curriculum with capstone research projects abroad from Botswana to Burma and Brunei. Further, the Ph.D. in Global Health Sciences directed by Dr. Elizabeth Fair spans four years of 200-level courses, such as Clinical Research Design and HIV/AIDS Policy, to the dissertation. Headed by Dr. Catherine Gilliss, the Executive Leadership DNP is California’s first public hybrid, CCNE-accredited program training certified nurses for the most advanced roles in seven quarters. Note there’s also a Health Policy Nursing MSN, MS in Biomedical Imaging, and Dual MD-MPH.
About the University of California San Francisco
The University of California San Francisco originated in 1864 when Transylvania surgeon Hugh Huger Toland opened Toland Medical College on Mission Street with Cooper Medical College faculty. In March 1873, the University of California Board of Trustees acquired it for public education. Coeducational since 1876, it was donated its 13-acre Parnassus Heights campus by the 24th Mayor Adolph Sutro in 1898. After the deadly 1906 earthquake, it opened the system’s first hospital. By 1949, it was formally designated the UC Medical Center in San Francisco. Devoted to only post-grad health sciences, UCSF reached administrative independence in 1964. In 1973, Dr. Herbert Boyer made history by discovering recombinant DNA on campus. During the 1990s, UCSF expanded by buying Mount Zion Hospital and opening a Mission Bay satellite. Fast forward to 2018 and UCSF received the second most National Institutes of Health funding at $593.9 million. Affiliated with nine Nobel laureates, the University of California San Francisco now engages 4,904 Bears in 180+ clubs like Sigma Theta Tau. The U.S. News & World Report ranked UCSF America’s fifth-best medical school and 11th top nursing college. Times Higher Education also placed San Francisco 44th overall globally.
University of California San Francisco Accreditation Details
On February 18, 2011, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission took action to renew the Level VI accreditation at the University of California San Francisco through 2021 under its 10th chancellor, Dr. Sam Hawgood, the Toni Rembe Rock Distinguished Professor. Located only 18 miles east via Interstate 880 in Alameda, this nine-territory Pacific Coast accreditor is authorized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to comprehensively review UCSF’s 11 master’s, 21 doctoral, and two certificate programs. The Office of Academic Affairs also lists these approvals:

University of California San Francisco Application Requirements
Admission to the University of California San Francisco is classified “most selective” by the U.S. News & World Report since just 145 of the 8,078 Fall 2017 applicants got accepted into its School of Medicine. Post-grad Bears must have completed 120 semester or 180 quarter credits of accredited BA/BS education. Eligibility requires a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. International students with “B” averages at U.S. colleges are welcome without testing. However, others need a 550 TOEFL pBT, 213 TOEFL cBT, 80 TOEFL iBT, or 7.0 IELTS mark. The MAS in Clinical Research prefers bachelor’s majors in the biological or health sciences. Online MS in Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership entrants have an Introduction to Statistics prerequisite. Having at least six months of full-time medical services experience is mandated. The GMAT range is 540 to 670 and the average GPA is 3.20. Executive Leadership DNP cohorts need valid RN licenses and accredited master’s preparation. The Ph.D. in Global Health Sciences seeks 3.0 master’s GPAs, two years of experience, and research backgrounds.
The University of California San Francisco has a MAS in Clinical Research deadline of March 21st. Executive Leadership DNP applicants have until December 1st yearly. Online MS in Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership entrants apply until seven weeks before start dates. The MS in Global Health has a December 10th priority and February 11th final deadline. The Ph.D. in Global Health Sciences has a December 5th cutoff. Accordingly, submit the UCSF Graduate Division Application online for $105 ($125 if foreign). Have registrars mail transcripts to 1675 Owens Street Suite 310 in San Francisco, CA 94143. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, the University of California San Francisco’s Graduate Division has billed $3,814 per quarter or $11,442 annually in-state. Non-resident graduates pay $5,034 each quarter or $15,102 yearly. The $1,128 services fee, $156 facilities fee, and $27 graduate association fee are added. Student health insurance premiums cost $5,060 each year. Living at the Mission Bay campus’ housing like The Tidelands costs $925 to $2,597 per month rent. Annual attendance averages $17,993 in-state and $33,095 out-of-state, but program specifics vary. The MAS in Clinical Research has flat-rate yearly tuition of $27,051. Everyone spends $32,676 per year for the MS in Biomedical Imaging. The MS in Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership has a $51,480 total online.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Student Financial Aid Office on Parnassus Ave gets 88 percent of UCSF Bears enrolled with median assistance of $23,122. The Regents’ Scholarship covers tuition with a $7,000 honorarium for students meeting a 3.25 GPA minimum. In 2017, a need-based Cost of Living Supplement of $2,400 was started. Partnered with Lyft, San Francisco pays the first $15 of travel balances in the Guaranteed Ride Home Program. Veterans GI Bill benefits and the California College Fee Waiver are accepted for military members.
