Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition ( for 12 to 18 credit hours) for one year is $46,950. Housing is $7,820 per semester and meal plans average $4,984. Books and supplies are estimated at $950. That brings the direct cost of attendance at TCU to $60,704. Students should also budget for personal expenses and things like loan fees.

Graduate tuition for summer sessions is $1,555 per credit hour. For the fall/spring semester tuition is $1,630 per credit hour. Graduate students must also consider housing costs, books and supplies, and personal expenses.

No matter how the cost is estimated, earning a degree is expensive. Most students require financial assistance to meet their student debt. Most schools suggest ( and some require) that students complete the FAFSA form when they apply to the school. This is a federal program that uses financial information submitted by the student to award grants, loans, and work-study opportunities according to financial need. Many schools use FAFSA information to award their own scholarships as well. For this reason, it is vital to complete the application as early as possible.

After receiving the FAFSA awards letter, students will have a better idea of what their financial obligation to the school will be. They should immediately apply for state and school funds for which they qualify.

Texas has a number of grants for higher education. Students with a high financial need can apply for the TEXAS Grant or the Texas Educational Opportunity Grant. The Top 10 Percent Grant targets high school students who graduate in the top 10 percent of their classes. There is a grant for students aging out of foster care and a number of scholarships for students studying to enter professions in which Texas is experiencing a shortage such as teaching.

Texas Christian University has many scholarship opportunities for academic merit, department-or-major-specific funds, grants for special populations such as Native Americans or Individuals with Disabilities and scholarships for people participating in extracurricular activities such as sports or music programs. Additionally, outside scholarships are funded by private individuals, service organizations and even corporations. These can be found on an Internet search.

Students who expend their scholarship and grant money and still have an outstanding debt should consider taking out a student loan. These usually carry low interest and allow students to defer repayment until after graduation. Work-study and part-time jobs at an excellent way to earn money to repay student debt because they provide work experience and help students flesh out their resumes. A “package” of all of these resources will help students earn their degrees from Texas Christian University and graduate with the least debt possible.
