About Stetson University
Stetson University is a private university that owns and operates several campuses in Florida. Established as the DeLand Academy, the school opened in 1883 and was named after its founder, Henry Addison DeLand. Granted a charter from the state a few years later, the school later became DeLand University and then adopted the name Stetson University in 1889. John B. Stetson now only started the famous company of the same name, but he also donated land to the university and worked closely with its founder. Affiliated with the Florida Baptist Convention for several years, this affiliation ended near the turn of the 20th century. That affiliation existed again from 1919 to 1995, but the university is now a separate and unaffiliated school.
The university now features four campuses, all of which are close to I-4, which makes it easy for students to commute to one of them. Both the Wall Street Journal and Forbes rank Stetson as one of the best American colleges. U.S. News and World Report placed Stetson on its list of the best southern colleges at number five. Stetson University also ranks as one of the nation’s best graduate schools, according to Washington Monthly.

It is the accreditation that lets them apply for an aid package through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The College of Law and all legal programs have accreditation from the American Bar Association (ABA) too.

All students applying to Stetson University will use the same application portal. This is what lets them create the accounts they use when applying. They will pay a $50 application fee and submit all required documents, including official high school transcripts, a writing sample and one letter of recommendation. Students can have these letters written by a high school teacher or guidance counselor. The writing sample asks them to write an essay from the five prompts given. Students have the option of sending in a standardized test score too.
Graduate students must meet the requirements for any specific program. The MBA/MHA program has a deadline at the beginning of August for the fall semester. They need to apply online and pay a $50 fee. The program requires official transcripts from the student’s past schools, a resume, personal statement and two letters of recommendation. They can use either academic and/or professional references. Once students submit all their documents, they can have their applications forwarded to the College of Law.
