Seton Hall University Health Management Degrees

Seton Hall University offers a Master of Healthcare Administration that is available both online and on campus. The program is designed for students who wish to enter leadership positions in the ever-changing healthcare industry. The program is 42 credits and is the only Master of Healthcare Administration in New Jersey that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education.

The program includes instruction in the analytical skills necessary to meet the challenges of the healthcare industry. Students gain critical thinking skills as well as communication skills. Students who complete the program online must also complete an orientation intensive for five days in August in order to learn the online classroom system as well as how to use the Seton Hall library. This intensive must be completed at the South Orange, New Jersey campus. Another intensive must be attended in the middle and at the end of the program. Hotel accommodations and most meals are covered under tuition and fees.

About Seton Hall University

Seton Hall college began in 1856 when it was founded by Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley. Although the school began and continues to operate as a Catholic university, it has always been open to people of all faiths, creeds, cultures and races. The school began when Pope Pius IX along with the Pienary Council fo American Bishops realized that there was a need for an institute of Catholic higher education in the area.

Bishop Bayley had strong roots in education. His grandfather, Dr. Richard Bayley was a professor at Columbia College and founded the New York quarantine system. His aunt, Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first American-born Roman Catholic to be canonized and founded Saint Joseph's Academy and Free School, dedicated to the education of Catholic girls. It was for his aunt that Bishop Bayley named his school.

The first campus was located in Madison, New Jersey, but moved to South Orange in 1860. Three fires destroyed several buildings over the years. During the Civil War, the school suffered major economic setbacks. A military science department opened in 1893 but disbanded during the Spanish-American War and the preparatory school separated from the school in 1897.

The school gained university status in 1937 and became completely co-educational in 1968. However, women began being admitted around 1937.

Today, Seton Hall is the oldest United States diocesan university, controlled by the Archdiocese of Newark. There are 5,500 undergraduate and 4,300 graduate students enrolled. The Gerald P. Buccino '63 Center for Leadership Development has been named number one in the nation for five consecutive years. US News and World Report has named the school one of the best colleges in the country and ranks its business program as top-tier. The Chronicle of Higher Education lists the school in its top 25 with the highest student mobility rates. Bloomberg Businessweek ranks the school in the top 100 undergraduate business schools. The school is also ranked highly for alumni satisfaction and highly for job placement among its law schools.

Seton Hall Application Requirements

In order to apply for the Master of Health Administration program, students must complete a graduate school application and hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. They must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 in their most recent degree. Three letters of recommendation are required as well as a statement of goals and a current resume.

Seton Hall Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition is $1,220 per credit hour and graduate programs are $1,259 per credit hour.

Financial aid is available and all students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) regardless of income. Financial aid is often provided based on merit as well as financial need. Financial aid packets may include grants or scholarships which do not be repaid after graduation. On-campus students may be offered work-study, fellowships or assistantships which provide employment to offset the cost of tuition. Packets may also include loans which must be repaid after graduation.
