Healthcare Management Degrees Offered at Sam Houston State University

Sam Houston State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration and a Master of Science in Health Care Quality and Safety.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration focuses on the conceptual and analytical abilities needed to manage modern health care organizations. Students acquire skills in health promotion, management, planning, and human resource administration. A total of 120 credit hours are needed to complete the degree. The core courses include Fundamental Health Promotion and Health Careers, Health and Medical Terminology, Multicultural Health Issues, Principles of Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Care Policy, Health Informatics, Health Laws and Ethics, and Economics for Health Managers. Graduates of the program are prepared to organize the delivery of services to promote wellness and prevent illness and disease in various communities. The program is offered both on campus and online.

The Master of Science in Health Care Quality and Safety is designed to prepare busy health care professionals for leadership roles in the quality and safety areas in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other health care entities. The program is presented in a 16-month cohort format that is offered online. A total of 36 credit hours are required and students can choose a thesis or non-thesis option. The core courses include Health Services Administration, Health Care Quality and Safety, Statistical Design in Health, Health Care Informatics, Risk Management in Health Care Organizations, Health Economics and Finance, Leading Change in Health Care Organizations, Quality and Safety Public Reporting Systems, Advanced Concepts in Health Care Quality, and Health Care Quality and Safety Capstone.

SHSU also offers an RN to BSN online.  The program is for licensed registered nurses who have already passed the NCLEX-RN.
