About Nova Southeastern University

Nova Southeastern University was founded in 1964 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Prior to obtaining its name, NSU was known as Nova University of Advanced Technology back in 1964. The campus was originally located in downtown Fort Lauderdale but was moved to the Foreman Field in Davie which was previously used as an auxiliary airfield in World War II. As NSU began to establish itself it started with programs in law, business, psychology, and oceanography. Nova was eager to continue expanding so it partnered with Southeastern University’s Health Sciences program. This is how the Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine was first created. By 1994 Nova officially merged with Southeastern University which is why the institution is now known as Nova Southeastern University. NSU is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a “high research activity” facility. Nova has more than one campus; the others are located in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miramar. The campus is even expanded as far as San Juan Puerto Rico.
