Four IUN Degrees for Health Care Administration Jobs

At Dunes Hall, the College of Health & Human Services offers a 120-credit, four-year Health Services Management B.S. for Indiana University-Northwest RedHawks to take courses from Principles of Epidemiology to Hospital Administration for strong 91 percent job placement. Chaired by Dr. Linda Galocy, the Health Information Management B.S. follows a 120-credit, CAHIIM-accredited hybrid sequence of online and Gary classes, such as Medical Terminology and Health Record Law, plus capstone practicum for RHIA certification. On Canvas, the RN to BSN Degree Completion option admits registered nurse cohorts with minimum 2.50 GPAs for accelerated six-week online courses like Disease Prevention and Childbearing Families with 98.6 percent student satisfaction. Directed by Dr. Ellen Szarleta, the Public Affairs M.P.A. also provides a 48-credit, non-thesis Health Services Administration concentration with advanced 500-level classes from Quantitative Analysis to Medical Ethics plus 300 internship hours.
About Indiana University-Northwest
Indiana University-Northwest originated in 1917 when Indiana University Bloomington and the Gary Community School Corporation joined together to start “Steel City” extension classes. In 1922, the Gary campus launched its first entire Associate of Arts (A.A.) program. In 1932, IU deserted the Gary branch to focus on its new Calumet Center. That Fall, William A. Wirt kept higher education accessible to local citizens by establishing Gary College on the same site. In 1948, the IU System again took over Gary College as a regional satellite. Seven years later, Gary residents voted to donate 27 acres of Gleason Park to expand the campus. In 1963, it became the Northwest Campus of Indiana University. In 1968, the Indiana University-Northwest name was chosen. On July 25, 1969, IUN finally earned initial regional accreditation. In 1972, IUN launched the Northwest Center for Medical Education. By 2019, Indiana University-Northwest became an NAIA Division II Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference member.
Endowed for $11.3 million, Indiana University-Northwest now employs 158 full-time and 179 part-time faculty teaching 3,959 RedHawks on its 42-acre, nine-building Gary campus near Indiana Dunes National Park or online with 70+ clubs like the Student Nursing Association for 67 percent retention. Indiana University-Northwest Accreditation Details
On August 19, 2016, the Higher Learning Commission on North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council formally notified Indiana University-Northwest that Level III accreditation was extended through 2025-26 under Chancellor William J. Lowe, PhD, who earned the Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year Award. Located 37 miles northwest via Interstate 94 in Chicago, this giant 19-state Great Lakes Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate IUN’s three associate, 53 bachelor’s, and 12 master’s degrees. Further, the College of Health & Human Services was reaffirmed by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in 2016. The Health Information Management B.S. was approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM) through 2024. The Public Affairs M.P.A. was also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) in 2015.
Indiana University-Northwest Application Requirements
Enrollment at Indiana University-Northwest is classified as “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s since 1,737 of the 2,182 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen for less selective 80 percent acceptance. First-year RedHawks entering the College of Health & Human Services must complete the Indiana Core 40 diploma or an out-of-state equivalent. Passing GED and TASC exam scores would also qualify. The Class of 2022 reported an average 3.03 secondary GPA. The middle 50th percentile had ACT scores of 18-23. Mid-range admitted SAT scores were 910-1100. Transfers with at least 26 semester or 39 quarter credits and 2.0 GPAs are admitted. The RN to BSN Degree Completion requires cumulative GPAs above 2.50 in associate-level nursing education. Foreign learners often need a minimum 530 TOEFL iBT, 6.0 IELTS, or 21 ACT English score. The Public Affairs M.P.A. mandates a four-year bachelor’s completion with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Lower grades will require a GRE General Test score over 280.
Indiana University-Northwest’s Office of Admissions accepts applicants on a rolling basis. The priority deadline for financial aid consideration is December 1st. Priority registration dates are currently March 24th for Fall, October 27th for Spring, and November 1st for Summer. Non-U.S. residents must file before June 1st, October 1st, or February 1st. The School of Nursing considers cohorts from January 15th to April 1st. Public Affairs M.P.A. entrants are welcome until May 1st and October 1st deadlines. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Indiana University-Northwest is charging in-state Health Services Management B.S. majors $229 per credit or $3,447 per semester. Non-resident bachelor’s tuition costs $644 per credit or $9,673 by term. Undergrads cover the $67 activity fee, $65 rehabilitation fee, $182 technology fee, and $39 parking fee each semester. Nursing programs incur a $94 fee per credit. IUN budgets $7,382 yearly for off-campus room and board. Students spend an average of $868 on books and $4,010 on miscellaneous expenses. Annual undergrad attendance equals $19,604 in-state and $31,660 out-of-state. The Midwest Student Exchange Program shaves off about $8,000 each year. Online RN to BSN majors pay only $229 to $330 per credit. The Public Affairs M.P.A. bills Indianans $302 and non-residents $713 per credit.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Aid in Hawthorn Hall Room 111 connects 86 percent of new full-time IUN RedHawks to median tuition assistance of $8,469 each for $2.91 million combined. University funds include the Francis D. Meyer Scholarship, Elsie Kerr Meyer Memorial Scholarship, Debra Wiener Memorial Scholarship, David Plucinski Memorial Scholarship, Gladys C. Harris Scholarship, Latino Hoosier Hero Scholarship, Medical Education Scholarship, Rhiman Rotz Memorial Scholarship, Robert E. Rainsberger Scholarship, Shirley Langel Nursing Scholarship, Squire Family Scholarship, Sylvia Doyne Collins Scholarship, and Sherry Wilds Burger Memorial Scholarship. The Academic Scholarship gives $2,000 annually to outstanding freshmen with minimum 1170 SAT or 24 ACT scores. The $6,000 Transfer Gold Tier Scholarship has a July 1st deadline for undergrads with 26+ accredited credits and GPAs above 3.50. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant or Work-Study Program, require FAFSA applications coded 001815. Indianans can also utilize the Frank O’Bannon Grant, Parley Nursing Scholarship, IHC Foundation Scholarship, National Guard Supplemental Grant, Adult Student Grant, and others.
