About Georgetown University

Georgetown University originated on January 2, 1792, when William Gaston enrolled as the first student at the United States’ earliest Jesuit institution founded by Archbishop John Carroll. In March 1815, President James Madison signed its federal charter for bachelor’s education. In 1851, Dr. James Ryder established the School of Medicine with Washington Infirmary. During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln used the Georgetown campus to house 1,400 Union men. In 1903, the School of Nursing was formally launched. Georgetown University Accreditation Details

On November 16, 2017, Georgetown University satisfactorily submitted the Fifth-Year Periodic Review Report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to continue the maximum Level VI accreditation through 2021-22 under its 48th president, Dr. John J. DeGioia, who earned the Sons of Italy Lifetime Achievement Award for Academia Excellence. Located 150 miles up Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, this superb six-state Northeast Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to review Georgetown’s nine schools. Specifically, the School of Nursing & Health Studies was accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) on October 19, 2016. The M.S. in Health Systems Administration was reaffirmed by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) in 2018 too.

Georgetown University Application Requirements

Admission to Georgetown University is classified “most difficult” by Peterson’s because only 3,365 of the 21,462 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for 16 percent acceptance. First-year Hoyas entering the B.S. in Health Care Management & Policy must exhibit rigorous high school preparation. At least three years of Math plus Biology and Chemistry are prerequisite. On average, freshmen present a 4.03 GPA, 1460 SAT, and 32 ACT mark. College transfers generally rank in the upper 85th percentile with a median 3.85 GPA. The School of Nursing and Health Studies seeks post-grad cohorts with regionally accredited baccalaureates at minimum 3.0 GPAs. Admitted mean GRE scores are 156 Verbal, 156 Quantitative, and 4.6 Writing. Some programs like the M.S. in Global Health Governance are GRE-optional though. The Executive M.S. in Health Systems Administration suits working clinicians with 3+ years of experience. Clinical Nurse Leader MSN students must fulfill seven prerequisites like Microbiology and Human Anatomy.

Georgetown University has freshmen deadlines of November 1st for Early Action and January 10th for Regular Decision. B.S. in Health Care Management & Policy transfers file until March 1st. The M.S. in Health Systems Administration has a January 15th priority and April 1st final deadline. M.S. in Global Health Governance and Executive MHSA cohorts must apply before June 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Georgetown University charged B.S. in Health Care Management & Policy majors $26,760 per full-time term. Studying part-time incurred $2,230 per credit. The Ignatian Scholarship gifts $1,000 to all Jesuit high school grads ranking in the top 5 percent. The Biomedical Academic Scholarship helps clinical master’s students with minimum 3.5 GPAs receive $7,500 per semester. Completing FAFSA forms coded 001445 by May 1st ensures federal aid, including Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, eligibility. Since 1999, the DC Tuition Assistance Grant has also helped local families making under $500,000.
