Healthcare Management Degree Programs at Cox College

Medical and health service managers plan, direct and coordinate organizations that deal with healthcare. Most healthcare managers hold a bachelor’s degree although some positions call for a master’s degree or higher. The average salary for a healthcare manager in 2018 was almost $100,000 per year. Cox College offers training designed to prepare individuals for positions that are expected to grow by 20 percent over the next decade.
Cox College offers an RN to BSN program that prepares students for leadership roles in nursing. Students gain an understanding of nursing informatics along with knowledge of community and public health nursing. General education courses provide an understanding of expository writing, politics, statistics and lifespan development. All courses must be completed with a “C” or better and students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 in all nursing courses. The program must be completed within five years of admission. Students must also choose 12 credit hours in electives. A practicum is also required as part of the degree program. Students who already hold an associate’s or other diploma in nursing receive credit for 70 of the 120 credit hours required for the degree.
About Cox College
Cox College began in 1907 as the Burge Deaconess Training School for Nurses with three students. One of those students, Miss Jane Campbell, graduated in January 1910. Missouri first established nursing licensure regulations in May 1908 and Miss Campbell’s original license was dated August 1910. The school remained small over time and there were some years when no students registered.
The outbreak of World War II changed that as there was a shortage of nurses. Under the guidance of Lester E. Cox, Burge Hospital was qualified by the State Board of Nursing to admit additional students. In January 1951, 15 students enrolled at the school. By 1956, 100 students were living on campus and attending classes. Throughout the region, Burge Training School became a premier nursing school.
In 1996, the name of the school was changed to the Lester L. Cox College of Nursing & Health Sciences in honor of the Lester E. Cox’s son who had served as Chairman for many years. In 1997, the school added a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2008, the name of the school was shortened to Cox College.
Today, Cox College offers associate, bachelor and master’s degrees in nursing as well as a bachelor’s in Diagnostic Imaging. They also offer master’s degrees in Nutrition Diagnostics and Occupational Therapy. Associate’s degrees in Radiography and Medical Assisting are offered as well. Cox College Accreditation Details
Cox College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Accreditation indicates that the school offers programs that are of the highest educational quality. It also qualifies students to receive federal financial aid and indicates that the school has the resources to meet their goals and objectives. The school undergoes periodic review to confirm that programs continue to meet the Commission’s criteria and agrees to address any issues that are determined to need improvement. Cox College Admissions Requirements
Applicants who wish to attend Cox College must complete an application and pay the applicable fee. They must provide official high school transcripts and have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.0. They must also provide official SAT or ACT scores. An SAT score must be 860 or higher and ACT score 18 or higher. Applicants who have earned 12 or more credits at another accredited college or university must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Cox College Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for the RN to BSN program is $415 per credit hour. Financial aid is available and students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Cox College awards more than $243,000 in scholarships from the CoxHealth Foundation and the CoxHealth Auxiliary. In order to qualify for scholarships, students should complete a scholarship application.
The primary responsibility for financing education lies with the student although the Financial Aid Office at Cox College works with every student to help them find the best way to pay for school. Students are encouraged to seek sources of aid from community resources as well. Most assistance offered through Cox College is need-based and need is determined by income, assets, family size and other factors. Although scholarships may be awarded, most financial packages at Cox College are federal student loans.
