The College of Business Graduate Programs

Located in West Haven Connecticut, the University of New Haven formerly known as New Haven College is a private university and borders the larger city of New Haven. The Master of Science in Health Administration is a 42-credit program consisting of 27 core credits and 15 credits in Health Care Marketing electives. Students gather critical information necessary for careers in health administration, managing within hospitals and other healthcare organizations through courses including healthcare economics, management within healthcare organizations, marketing and communication, information system management. The curriculum allows the student to better understand management issues to prepare for senior management positions within the healthcare delivery system. The available options for MSHA specialization are as follows:

  1. Health Care Marketing Concentration – This concentration provides essential skills in marketing as it applies to the Healthcare Delivery System. Curriculum includes elements of marketing and using marketing tools and strategy in todays Health Care environment.
  2. Human Resource Management in Health Care Concentration – This concentration is designed for the professional already working in the Human Resources or students who wish to work in human resources at a professional level. With curriculum in training, labor relations and compensation students are prepared to employ the knowledge of employment law, benefits and their administration.
  3. Long Term Care Concentration – With the increasing need in the Health Care Industry for professionals specialized with dealing with the long-term care population those with a Master of Science in Health Care with a Long Term Care Concentration will be prepared to meet this need. Curriculum reinforces skills to impact the quality of care in the long-term care with emphasis on general management; health and long term care management. The graduate with this concentration will be prepared to enter top-level administrative positions in a long-term care setting.
  4. Managed Care Concentration – The Managed Care Concentration is designed to provide students with the knowledge in management theory and understanding the managed care system. The focus is to develop the management skills necessary to provide the essential information in providing services for managed care to the public and the ethical responsibly for understanding administrative duties in managed care.
  5. Medical Group Management Concentration – Medical group management Concentration includes curriculum in managed care concepts for Medical group organization and the role in providing medical care through managed care organizations.

The Master of Health Administration program prepares graduates for entry into administrative position in a wide array of Healthcare organizational settings. The program is targeted for those adults seeking part time studies while continuing in their current careers. Classes take place in the evenings with some Saturday courses and with elective courses available; students can focus their education path specifically to match their future career path.

The Health Administration program consists of 36 core credits of twelve graduate courses. Students also may choose an additional 12 or more semester hours of elective coursework.
