Master of Business Administration with a Health Administration Concentration

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Belhaven University blends the academics and fundamentals of the Christian faith. Students are required to participate in team activities to develop strengths in problem solving. Online Master of Business Administration with a Healthcare Management Concentration

The fully online format for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management allows students the flexibility to continue in their careers while pursuing a graduate degree. The forty-two credit hour program is offered in eight-week segments with an emphasis is on strategic management concepts and principles. The MBA program emphasizes the importance of human relations skills and strategic management processes through a Christian worldview. Objectives for the program include:

Jackson State University

The College of Business

Located in Jackson, Mississippi, Jackson State University is a historically black university founded in 1877. The University began as Natchez Seminary, a private school, under the direction of the American Baptist Home Mission Society of New York to provide an education to the Newly freed and underprivileged black population in Mississippi. Popular majors are business marketing, education and interdisciplinary studies. The mission statement as stated by the university is “challenging minds and changing lives”. The School of Health Sciences provides a learning environment to support developing professionals public health concepts, values and ability to address and resolve Healthcare issues. Graduates of the program are prepared to become practitioners in professional public health careers. In 2015, Forbes Magazine ranked Jackson State as the 110th best in the Southern region of the United States.

Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) Program prepares students for careers as competent practitioners in different areas of public health that include behavioral health promotion and education, epidemiology, and health policy management. Graduates of the MPH program are prepared to respond to the challenges of health disparities in populations and healthcare affecting minorities and others underserved in the population. The MPH program at Jackson State offers a full-time and part-time curriculum to allow flexibility in learning style. Students typically complete curriculum in two and a half years as a full-time program, those choosing a part time program usually require an additional two semesters for completion. Completion of the MPH requires a minimum of 45 semester hours of credit including completion of a field practice internship. Additionally there are five required specialization courses totaling 15 credit hours to advanced skills in public health specializations.

Mississippi College

Graduate School

Located in Clinton Mississippi (just west of the State Capital), Mississippi College is a private Christian college that was founded in 1826. The college is the oldest college in Mississippi and the second oldest Baptist-affiliated College in the United States. Current enrollment is over 5,000 students making Mississippi College the largest private university in the state. The 2015 edition of Best Regional Colleges ranks Mississippi College’s 29th in the South. The University emphasizes programs that provide opportunity for service with a mission as stated by the college to “promote and support quality graduate education within academic departments”. The Graduate School prepares students to conduct research, produce creative work, and develops the necessary analytical skills to perform successfully in their chosen careers.

Masters of Health Services Administration

The Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA) program offers students the flexibility to meet their current responsibilities by choosing a traditional in classroom format (daytime or evenings available) as well as a fully online format. Seminar topics rotate annually, and students are expected to present their Convocation Paper as part of the requirement for graduation during this course. Coursework for program includes Legal Aspects of Healthcare Administration, Organizational Behavior, Methods and Procedures for Research, Contemporary Issues in Healthcare, Healthcare Financial Management, Healthcare Marketing, Health Services Administration Seminar, Healthcare Management and Ethics in Healthcare Administration. Courses focus on the concepts and mechanics of financial analysis as it applies to the healthcare sector; financial organizations and the community; problems specific to hospitals and their governing boards and medical staff, physicians professional liability, medical personnel in hospitals and government regulations in healthcare.
