Doctor of Philosophy /Master of Science in Public Health
The Doctor of Philosophy/ Master of Science in Public Health (PhD/MS) Program is an interdisciplinary program that provides coursework leading to both the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees. Students accepted into the Ph.D. Program choose one of three research tracks:

Students enrolled in the dual degree program usually take coursework and do research rotations during the first two years of study, and sometime during their second year identify a research mentor. Areas of research in Both the Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine program include: complex disease genetics, biochemical genetics, gene mapping and function, infectious disease genetics, psychiatric genetics, pharmacogenetics, DNA instability and cancer cytogenetics. Areas of research for the Epidemiology and Molecular Epidemiology tracks include: vaccine evaluation, hospital epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance, issues in long-term care, disability in older adults, complementary and alternative therapies, global health and health disparities, veterinary epidemiology, injury epidemiology.
Medical Doctor/Master of Public Health
The goal of the Medical Doctor/Master of Public Health (MD/MPH) dual degree program is providing students, enrolled in professional schools, and health professionals with the opportunity for formal training in public health. With a continuing need for physicians with the skills and knowledge of public health issues, the goal of the MD/MPH Program is to allow students the completion of both degrees within a five-year program. The MPH program is based in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. Students have the option of specializing in one of three concentrations:

The forty-two hour MPH degree requires seventeen credits from core courses and a six-credit Capstone Experience. Students must complete all of the core courses prior to beginning the Capstone Experience course, a supervised, public-health field experience that usually occurs in their senior year for the majority of medical students.
