Juris Doctor/Master of Science in Public Health
In collaboration with Campbell University’s School of Law, the Juris Doctor/Master of Science in Public Health dual degree program provides students with an interdisciplinary view of law and public health. Graduates of the program are prepared for careers representing clients, health organizations or systems serving in leadership roles in health policy at the local, state, and national levels. Earning a dual degree provides students the ability to develop skills; a better understanding of healthcare needs and to better understand issues with a broader perspective. Future career opportunities in the healthcare industry include healthcare legislation advisors, healthcare consultants, or careers in health law practice. By the addition of the one-year program, students earn 32 credit hours of public health courses and are awarded both the JD and MSPH in four years of study. Most students in the dual degree JD/MSPH program complete the public health part of the coursework between their first and second year of law school. After the first year of public health study, students return to law school for their final two years of required coursework. Law classes are only available at the Law School’s campus in Raleigh and coursework for the public health program is available on Campbell’s main campus in Buies Creek.
Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Science in Public Health
The Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Science in Public Health (PharmD/MS) dual degree program allows students to combine programs in clinical and public health to become clinicians contributing as community educators, health leaders, and policymakers that will affect local, state and national health care systems. Only accepted and enrolled pharmacy students can apply to the dual degree program. The additional one-year program provides 32 credit hours of public health courses, and both the PharmD and MSPH degrees are awarded after five years of study. Pharmacy students that are interested in enrolling in the dual program must complete the dual degree PharmD/MSPH application to receive dual degree status. Most students first finish their PharmD degree and then spend an additional year to obtain their MSPH. The year as an MSPH student will be solely devoted to the public health curriculum.
The Master of Physician Assistant Practice/ Master of Science in Public Health
The Master of Physician Assistant Practice/ Master of Science in Public Health (MPAP/MSPH) dual degree program allows students the opportunity to gain a clinical and public health education to assume leadership roles as clinicians while also assuming roles as community health leaders, educators, and policymakers that will affect the community, state, and national healthcare system. Only accepted and enrolled physician assistant students can apply to the dual degree program. The additional one-year study provides 32 credit hours of public health coursework. PA students with an interest in the dual degree program must complete a separate application for the public health program to receive dual degree status. Students of the MPAP/MSPH program will spend their first year completing the MSPH coursework and enter the PA program the following year. The PA program requires a 24-month curriculum in addition to their MSPH research project. The year as an MSPH student will be solely devoted to the public health curriculum.
Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration
The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS) offers a Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration (PharmD/MBA) dual degree in conjunction with the University’s Lundy- Fetterman School of Business. Curriculum for the MBA prepares students for careers as future pharmacists in the complexities of business as it relates to pharmacy and healthcare. Coursework for the MBA trains students for future careers in leadership and policy in the healthcare system, as well as owning an independent pharmacy. Objectives for the MBA program include the development of the students’ analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision making capability to provide the essential knowledge required solving business problems. Students enrolled in the MBA program study economics, organizational behavior, marketing, accounting, finance, management, and ethics. Once accepted into the PharmD program, applicants can apply to the MBA program. If the student has not met all the prerequisite classes for the MBA program, they have the option to complete these in an accelerated three-week summer course. Students in the dual program have the opportunity to apply nine credit hours from the curriculum of the PharmD program toward their MBA. Students also have the ability to complete a research project in a health care administration area allowing them to apply pharmacy and business principles to managing a healthcare problem.
