Master of Science in Health Services Administration

The Master of Science in Health Services Administration (MSHSA) is designed to provide graduate level education to experienced healthcare managers seeking to further develop their administrative knowledge, skills to enhance their contributions to the healthcare industry to assume leadership positions. MSHSA graduates are prepared to advance their careers in a variety of healthcare settings including: physician practices, community health, hospitals and clinics, consulting services, managed care organizations, advocacy organizations and insurance companies. Continuing Education and Graduate Studies

Founded in 1855, Elmira College was the first women’s college to offer degree options equal to those of men’s colleges. It is a private liberal arts college with a current enrollment of 1,408 students on a 55 acres campus in Elmira, New York. Hilbert College

The Department of Graduate Studies

Hilbert College is a private Franciscan Catholic college located in the town of Hamburg, about 20 minutes south of Buffalo, New York. The college is named after Mother Collette Hilbert of the Franciscan Sisters of Saint Joseph, who founded the school to train teachers in 1957. Hilbert College currently enrolls more than 1,100 students and grants both undergraduate and master’s degrees. The mission for Hilbert (as stated by the college) is to be “an independent institution of higher learning that embraces its Catholic Franciscan heritage and values. Master of Public Administration in Health Administration

The Master of Public Administration in Health Administration (MPAHA) degree at Hilbert College is designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge for future success in public service and health care management careers in a variety of organizations. Today’s health services organizations, hospitals, public health infrastructure and related agencies require individuals who are trained in public health and the structure, organization and financing of health care systems. Coursework for the program combines the core curriculum of the MPA with a specialized concentration in health administration and services. Graduates of the program enter careers in public or health services administration, policy, evaluation, planning, consulting and related careers. Additionally, the MPA Health Administration curriculum includes an integrated research project, taking place throughout the program to allow for a more thorough application of theory and research. The research project functions as a foundation upon which to transition from theory to a practical application, culminating in a final capstone major project. Students in this program remain together throughout the 18-month program, changing their course study every five weeks to complete 12 sessions. For added flexibility the program meets on Wednesday (6:00 pm – 9:00 pm) and Saturday (9:00 am – 2:30 pm).

Frank G. Zarb School of Business Graduate Programs

Founded in 1935, Hofstra University is the largest private college on Long Island, New York. Master of Business Administration in Health Services Management

The Master of Business Administration in Health Services Management (MBA) program prepares students for managerial positions in health services organizations. The program builds on core business competencies with a specialization in Health Service Management, offering students the ability to have decision analysis skills and a strategic perspective of business problems. The 41 to 48 credits Masters degree requires:

  1. Two to six credits of core competency requirements to provide students exposure to economical, legal, political, regulatory and ethical environment of business. These areas of business provide knowledge that is necessary to understand how a business organization functions.
  2. Twenty-one to twenty-four credits of advanced core focusing on functional areas of business including coursework in accounting, management information systems, finance, operations management, marketing, and quantitative analysis. Additionally, global business decision making, contemporary organizations and leadership skills are also included in the advanced core component.
  3. Fifteen credits in Health Services Administration to establish a strong foundation of specialized knowledge. This complements the skills in the various functional areas of business, as well as the professional leadership and management orientation.
  4. A three credit capstone integrative course covering all functional areas of organizations is required for completion of the program.
