Founded in 1881, Dakota State University is a public coed university located in Madison South Dakota. Master of Science in Health Informatics
The Masters of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) program prepares students to enter careers as health informatics professionals in executive, administrative, research, or applied health informatics positions. Coursework will help students understand the design, development and management of health information systems in healthcare-related settings. Students gain the skills and knowledge required in managing information technology applications in the health care industry (including how to store, retrieve, and interpret patient care information) Master’s degree candidates in this program come from many diverse educational backgrounds and disciplines. Graduates of the program enter careers in information technology health care industry as executive information officers, corporate health information manager, data analytics and data mining specialists, health information application developers, and health information management specialist. Competencies for graduates of the MSHI program include the following abilities:

The MSHI program is available as full time or part time program. Full-time students can complete the program in four semesters (taking 9 credits per semester) and program must be completed in 5 years (from admission)
Master of Business Administration with Health Care Electives
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) in general management is a strong program with an innovative information technology focus. The MBA is offered at the University Center, in Sioux Falls, as well as in an online format. The program is geared toward entry-level and lower-middle management professionals who want to advance in their careers and expand their business skills and their employment prospects. Competencies for graduates of the MBA program include the following abilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and management
- Apply knowledge of accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and management to business situations
- Demonstrate knowledge of management information systems to project management relating to organizational function

Students in the program must complete the coursework within five years of admission. The MBA curriculum includes 27 credits of Core courses, 6 electives (including Health care courses Introduction to Health Care Information and Health Care Information Infrastructure) and requires a 3-credit capstone course.

South Dakota State University was founded in the Dakota Territory in February of 1881, as Dakota Agriculture College. The university is the largest coed university in the state with a current enrollment of 12,589 students, coming from across the country as well as 81 counties abroad. Medical and health services managers were employed in more than 315,500 jobs in May of 2012, and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics this number will continue to grow twenty three percent by 2022. Most medical and health service managers are employed in health care settings including health care delivery systems, hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care and group medical practices. Although a bachelor’s degree may be acceptable for some lower level positions, the majority of jobs required a master’s degree. Average salaries for experienced health care managers with master’s degrees can range well into six figures.
