Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership

The curriculum for the Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership (EMHL) program prepares students to enter careers as professional leaders who will transform the face of healthcare. The 16-month degree program is applicable for clinicians, executives, senior administrators, and others with significant levels of responsibility in healthcare in settings including health care delivery, public health, pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare consulting, and many more. The coursework for the EMHL blends allows flexibility in learning style with the choice of residential and online learning (allowing students to work full time while pursuing an advanced degree). Brown University

Brown School of Public Health

The Public Health program became the Brown University School of Public Health in July of 2013, with more than 200 faculty and 275 undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in programs. The School of Public Health teaches curriculum in a “lifelong health” approach in improving the lives of people, beginning before conception, continuing through the prime of life to healthy aging and end of life. The School of Public Health houses 11 nationally known research centers. The mission (as stated by the School of Public Health) is “serving community, the nation, and the world training future public health leaders and discovering and communicating innovative approaches addressing public health challenges enhancing population health and well-being.” The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) at Brown University School of Public Health offers programs leading to Master of Science, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in behavioral and social health sciences.

Master of Science/Arts in Behavioral and Social Health Sciences

The curriculum for the Master of Arts (MA) /Master of Science (MS) program in Behavioral and Social Health Sciences (BSHS) at Brown School of Public Health prepares graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to analyze the complex behavioral and social determinants of public health to change behaviors and improve social contexts related to public health. The BSHS program is well suited for students who want to enter careers in evaluation of health program, program management, community-based organizations, non-profit services, managed care, treatment intervention research, and clinical trials. Graduates of the program are amply prepared to pursue doctoral-level training in public health, psychology, public policy, and social welfare. Students in the Master of Arts program are required to complete a written Thesis and the Master of Arts students are required completion of a Capstone experience with supervised community fieldwork.

Master of Science in Biostatistics

The curriculum for the two-year Master of Science degree in Epidemiology provides students with an advanced training in the underlying principles and practice of epidemiology. Upon completion of the MS/MA in Biostatistics program students will have the following competencies:

  • Conceptualize epidemiologic approaches to better understand causes of health and disease
  • Synthesis existing literature in epidemiology
  • Experience in the design and conduct epidemiologic studies
  • Sample size estimation for basic epidemiologic study designs
  • Analyze data from epidemiologic studies using appropriate statistical methods
  • Effective communication of scientific findings

Graduates of the Biostatistics Masters program are prepared to pursue professional careers as statisticians or data analysts in industry, government or academia to enter doctoral study in biostatistics. Student of the program can complete the program in as little as one year and are also required completion of a thesis.

Master in Science in Epidemiology

The curriculum for the two-year Master of Science degree in Epidemiology provides students with advanced training in the underlying principles and practice of epidemiology. Candidates for the Master of Science degree follow an integrated program of study comprising a minimum of 12 credits and a master’s thesis. There is no written examination requirement. Students in the Master of Science program follow an integrated program of study completing a minimum of 12 credits and a master’s thesis (there is no written examination requirement).

Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program prepares students for careers in Public Health preventing disease and promoting health in the human populations. Coursework allows students an understanding of threats challenging the health of the public including acute and chronic diseases and conditions (including AIDS, addiction, obesity, and aging and conditions based on gender, race, socioeconomics, and level of education). Graduate study prepares graduates for entry in careers as leaders in public health to conduct research, effect policy change, and positively affect health in populations. Competencies for graduates of the program include the following abilities:

  • Identify, assess, understand and apply the current state of public health knowledge to a given public health concern
  • Design health services or health policy research or epidemiological study or intervention study, analyze results, draw appropriate conclusions, and report results
  • Recognize and describe a public health problem to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate a program or intervention in order to manage, control, or solve that problem
  • Identification of community service opportunities to develop and maintain effective linkages with organizations and agencies in the community
  • Organize and communicate information pertaining to a public health problem or condition, including policy implications, priorities and recommended course of action
  • Manage and affect information including data, reference materials, etc. using computer technology and library resources.

Master of Public Health in Epidemiology

The mission of the MPH in epidemiology track is preparing students to enter careers reducing disease burden and disparities with a strong background in epidemiology methods. Competencies for Graduates of the MPH in Epidemiology include the following abilities:

  • Identify and describe public health problems relevant to a specific population
  • Demonstrate expertise in the method needed to formulate a research hypothesis, study design, obtaining or collecting epidemiologic data, and data analysis
  • Effectively communicate epidemiologic information to diverse audiences
  • Evaluate the strengths and limitations of epidemiologic reports
  • Draw appropriate inferences from epidemiologic data

All students in the Epidemiology Track are required to complete a Public Health Community Service Internship that includes a core curriculum as well as a field experience relevant to the student’s public health interests and future career goals. Students are also required to complete a thesis appropriate to their interests and career path in the epidemiologic aspects of public health.

Master of Public Health in Global Health

Curriculum for the Master of Public Health in Global Health develops public health professional’s experts in issues related to global health. Global health research and training focuses on health inequalities within communities and populations and across populations throughout the world. Coursework for Global health includes a study of the domestic and international health inequalities and solutions needed to bridge health inequalities through scientific evidence of etiology and prevention. Students are required to complete a Public Health Community Service Internship that includes a core curriculum as well as a field experience specific to student’s future career goals.

Master of Public Health in Behavioral and Social Science

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Behavioral and Social Science (BSS) prepares students to understand and apply theories of health behavior and health promotion in order to improve population health. Students in the program gain experience in behavioral-social science frameworks and methods for design, implementing and evaluating interventions to disseminate and translate findings for diverse communities. The BSS track emphasizes roles of cultural competency, ethical practice, professionalism, and community collaboration as vital to the design and delivery of public health interventions. All students in the Behavioral and Social Science Track are required completion of a Public Health Community Service Internship that includes a core curriculum and a field experience specific to the student’s public health interests and future career goals.

Master of Public Health in Biostatistics

The Master of Public Health in Biostatistics uses a curriculum with core MPH training with coursework on methods and practice of biostatistics in public health and clinical research. Students in the MPH in Biostatistics have the opportunity to work with faculty to develop thesis ideas and research. All students in the MPH Biostatistics program are required to complete a Public Health Community Service Internship that includes a core curriculum with a field experience specific to the student’s public health interests and future career goals. Students work with faculty advisors to design a thesis project appropriate to their interests and career path in bio-statistical applications for public health.

Master of Public Health in Environmental Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Environmental Health (EH) program provides an interdisciplinary approach to examine and improve environmental and community health risks by providing evidence for health policies to alleviate these risks. Coursework in the program examines the environment and how social environment plays a key role in understanding environmental and community health. All students in the Environmental Health program are required completion of Public Health Community Service Internships specific to future career goals and must also complete a thesis (working with faculty advisors to design a thesis project appropriate to their interests and career path in environmental health).

Rhode Island College

School of Nursing

Founded in 1854, Rhode Island College is a coed state-supported college located in Providence Rhode Island. It is the oldest of the three public institutions of higher education and provides academic programs throughout five highly ranked schools. The School of Graduate Studies

Founded in 1934 by the Sisters of Mercy, Salve Regina University is a private Catholic coed University that is located in Newport, Rhode Island. The Master of Science (MS) in Healthcare Administration and Management program prepares those with either clinical or business backgrounds for entering careers in top management in the challenging healthcare field. Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management

The curriculum for the Master of Business Administration program is designed to prepare graduates for careers leading and managing in healthcare settings. The MBA curriculum provides students with required knowledge and skills to appreciate and address critical issues facing them in the continually complex and ever changing healthcare industry. Coursework focuses topics including ethics, organizational behavior, finance, economics, accounting and strategic management and students who are pursuing careers in healthcare are required to complete three electives from specific Healthcare care administration and management courses. Students will complete 36 credits with 30 credits of core coursework and the additional credits in Healthcare Electives from the following courses: Health Care Marketing , Health Law, Health Care Finance, Ethics for Health Professionals, Introduction to Healthcare and Health Policy.

College of Business Administration

Founded in 1892, The University of Rhode Island is a public coed research university with its main campus on 1,245 acres located in Kingston Rhode Island. There are also smaller campus locations in Providence, Narragansett and West Greenwich (Rhode Island). The university awards bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in 80 undergraduate and 49 graduate areas of study through its seven colleges. Master of Business Administration with Healthcare Management Focus

The curriculum for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Evening Program with Healthcare Management Focus (located at the Providence campus) prepares students to enter careers as effective leaders and managers. The program emphasizes the conceptual, analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills required for careers of leadership in business. The MBA program also offers students the option to pursue a healthcare management specialization with six courses as part of the existing MBA program. The Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration (PharmD/MBA) is offered in conjunction with the Colleges of Pharmacy and the College of Business Administration to allow current PharmD students an opportunity to develop management and administrative skills by study in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. Graduates of the dual program are amply prepared to assume careers of leadership in management roles within the healthcare industry. By combining coursework in management with pharmacy coursework, combined with required practicum experiences, students gain a core knowledge base of theoretical and applied information.
