University of the Sciences

The Mayes College of Health Care Business and Policy

The University of the Sciences is a private coed university located in the Spruce Hill section of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Total current enrollment is 2,339 students on the 35-acre main campus and offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in pharmacy in and other health-related disciplines. Students study almost the entire range of the health sciences in one of its four colleges: the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, the Samson College of Health Sciences, the Misher College of Arts and Sciences and the Mayes College of Health Care Business and Policy. The Mayes College of Health Care Business & Policy offers students the ability to pursue a BS degree in Pharmaceutical and Health Care Business, an online and on-campus MBA in Pharmaceutical and Health Care Business, an online Master’s in Biomedical Writing, an online certificate in Regulatory Writing, an online certificate in Medical Marketing, and an MS and PhD in Health Policy.

Master of Science in Bioinformatics

The curriculum for the Master of Science in Bioinformatics emphasizes the way information is stored, transformed, and utilized by living things including the analysis of biological sequence data, including sequence assembly, and identification of genes, analysis of gene structure, prediction of expressed proteins, identification of functionally important sequences in both nucleotides and proteins. Coursework includes prediction of three-dimensional structures of proteins and nucleotides, pharmacogenomics, proteomics, microarray data analysis, and modeling of metabolic pathways. Graduates of the program will have the following competencies:

  • Core understanding of the fundamentals of molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology necessary to comprehend and critically evaluate the contemporary scientific literature for Bioinformatics and other disciplines
  • Understanding of theoretical and computational concepts underlying current Bioinformatics practice, in particular concerning sequence analysis, computational genomics, and data mining methods
  • Core proficiency in software development in a variety of computer languages relevant to bioinformatics as well as show competence in web-centered application development
  • Effectively communicate both in writing and oral presentation

The Master of Science in Bioinformatics degree requires completion of 30-33 credits and can choose from two different tracks for specialization, a biotechnology track or a computational track.

Master of Business Administration in Pharmaceutical and Health Care Business

The Master of Business Administration in Pharmaceutical and Health Care Business degree program is specifically designed for professionals seeking top-level leadership careers in the pharmaceutical and Health Care industry. Coursework for the program includes the following areas of study:

  • Global Health Care related business models and challenges
  • Foreign and US Health Care systems and services

Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program is interdisciplinary and covers topics from biostatistics and epidemiology to policy analysis and social sciences, with a focus on development of solutions to health problems today. Topics of coursework include:

  • Tracking epidemics (including H1N1) to their source
  • Access to high-quality prevention programs
  • Evaluate and implement community-based sustainability programs
  • Create educational campaigns in combatting childhood obesity
  • Advocate improved health policies in regulatory and legislative channels

The program provides a diverse perspective from with expertise in the health sciences, pharmaceuticals, education, statistics, and public policy. Graduates of the program are prepare to enter careers to analyze public health policies, direct public health projects, direct clinical trials, evaluate and analyze existing programs, direct pollution control, as an administrator for the EPA, Conduct outcomes research for corporations, infectious disease control management and other career opportunities. Requirements for the program include 45 credits of the following: 18 credits of Public Health Core, 15 credits of Health Policy Concentration Electives, 6 credits of Culminating Experience.

Widener University

The School of Business Administration

Founded in 1821, Widener University is a private coed university that is located in Chester Pennsylvania. The main campus is located on 108 acres and there are three additional satellite campuses in Harrisburg and Exton Pennsylvania, and one in Wilmington Delaware. Master of Business administration in Health Care Management

The Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management prepares students to enter health care administration careers in leadership roles with the competencies to make them more valuable to health care employers. Coursework for the program provides a study of the complexities of today’s industry and the demand to control escalating costs, restraints on resources and the demand for better outcomes. Graduates enter careers as health care managers proficient in designing efficient processes, creating programs delivering positive outcomes, and become effective leaders. The 33-credit MBA program includes 24 core credits of MBS requirements and 9 credits of health care electives. It is offered in both traditional classroom or as an online program for students who need more flexible schedule to fit job and family responsibility. The program can be completed in as little as 12 months or up to four years.

Doctor of Psychology/Health Care Master of Business Administration

The curriculum for the Doctor of Psychology/Health Care Master of Business Administration (PsyD/ MBA in Health Care) dual degree educates students to enter health care organizations as competent leaders who can navigate the human and business aspects of health care management, balancing both in order to make effective decisions. Coursework for the program provides competencies in clinical and organizational psychology combined with essential business skills in economics, finance, accounting, marketing, process, and strategic management. Graduates are awarded the MBA from the School of Business Administration and the PsyD from the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology, prepared for careers in hospital and health care management, consulting, clinical psychology practice, and education.

The School of Nursing

Widener University is a private, metropolitan university comprised of eight schools and colleges offering liberal arts and sciences curriculum leading to associates, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees. Master of Science in Nursing in Executive Nurse Leadership

The curriculum for the Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Executive Nurse Leadership prepares students to enter careers influencing society and the health care system through leadership. The MS program provides students with required skills and knowledge to enter advance-nursing practice careers as leaders in health care and health systems. The focus of the program is improving patients and populations health outcomes through leadership of patient-centered practices. Coursework for the Executive Nurse Leadership MSN is provided through both the School of Nursing and the School of Business Administration. Graduates who want to pursue a Master of Business Administration can transfer the nine business credits completed in the concentration toward their MBA. West Chester University

The College of Health Sciences

Founded in 1871, West Chester University of Pennsylvania is a public coed university located in West Chester Pennsylvania. Master of Public Health in Health Care Management

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focused elective area of Health Care Management provides students with the skills and knowledge required for administrative careers in health care systems, hospitals, consulting, managed care, insurance companies, group practices, government agencies and a variety of other health care settings. This program prepares students for careers as administrators and managers introducing them to administrative perspectives and issues existing in today’s health care industry. Master of Public Health in Environmental Health

The curriculum for the Master of Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health prepares students for careers as Environmental Health professionals skilled to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control hazards that affect human health in the environment. Environmental Health professionals are strong scientists who apply their skills to solving environmental problems. The Master of Business Administration in Health Care Administration

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Health Care Administration Concentration provides a curriculum of study to advance the personal and career goals of working professionals with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers of leadership and management. All courses for the program are offered during evening hours, Monday through Thursday with some offered on Saturday morning. Courses are taught in small sections, by full-time faculty, many of whom have significant business experience and are actively involved in consulting. Students in the program can choose an area of specialization to tailor their MBA to meet their specific career goals and include the Health Care Management Specialization. Completion of the MBA degree requires 39 credits including the following:

  • 9 credits of MBA Foundation courses
  • 18 credits of MBA Core courses
  • 12 credits of MBA Concentration courses

Students in the MBA program may be required up to 15 additional credits of MBA Fundamentals courses, depending on the student’s undergraduate coursework. The Health Care Management Concentration includes the following courses:
