Master of Science in Nursing

The Master of Science in Nursing provides students with a challenging curriculum, offering students the ability to define their professional career goals and develop a strategy to meet those identified goals. For flexibility, the program is available in a part-time or full-time format in a traditional in classroom format as well as online.
Coursework incorporates theory, research and clinical practice and shares a core curriculum. Specialty areas (consisting of 18 credits) are also available to meet each students careers goals and include Community Systems Administration and Nursing Informatics. The program requires 36 credits for completion and full-time students can complete the program in as little as 15 months beginning with a summer semester. Concentration in Nursing Informatics

The Nursing Informatics Specialty prepares professional nurses to address the challenges in areas such as clinical information and knowledge that currently face health care professionals. Students are prepared with the skills needed to support delivery of health care combining computer science, information science and nursing science. Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Public Health Dual Degree

Curriculum for the Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Public Health (MSN/MPH) dual degree is designed for nurses with an interest in a strong public health background to blend advanced nursing practice with public health research and practice. Most dual degrees require completion of all coursework in both programs of study to be completed before awarding the degrees; however the dual MS/MPH degree program at Jefferson allows students to be awarded one degree if all coursework for the specialty area is completed. Students also have the opportunity to transfer 9-12 credits into the 45-credit MPH degree program.

The Jefferson College of Population Health

Thomas Jefferson University is a private health sciences university that is located in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Current enrollment includes 3,651 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. In 2015, US News and World Reports ranked the Sidney Kimmel Medical College as the 63rd best primary research institution and 62nd among primary care institutions. The Jefferson College of Population Health opened in 2008 as part of Thomas Jefferson University. Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program prepares students to enter careers in public health as professional leaders skilled to examine the social determinants of health and to evaluate, develop and implement health policies and systems to improve the health of populations to enhance the quality of life. Students in the program will develop required competencies in the five key areas of public health:

  • Behavioral and social science
  • Biostatistics

The MPH curriculum emphasizes leadership skills, systems thinking, health communication, global health and cultural humility and competency. Students in this program have the opportunity to pursue a dual degree in medicine, law, pharmacy and social work. Public Health study and practice includes goals to prevent illness, disease, and injury and to promote and protect human health. Public health coursework studies the outbreaks of disease, conducting community health assessments, planning health education programs, and directing campaigns in order to reduce risk factors leading to chronic health conditions (heart disease and diabetes). Future careers in public health settings include state and local health departments, community health centers and hospitals, non-government health organizations, academia, health agencies, insurance companies, and in businesses. The MPH requires completion of 45 credits and includes a capstone project and a field experience (a semester-long community experience that is completed locally, nationally, or abroad).

Master of Science in Health care Quality and Safety Management

The curriculum for the Master of Science in Quality and Safety Management program prepares students with the skills to enter careers as leaders with the ability to plan and implement solutions to challenges facing the current health care system. Students will learns the ins and outs of topics such as continual rising costs, lack of health services and concerns about the quality and safety of medical care. The MS in Health care Quality and Safety Management requires completion of 39 credits and includes 11 core courses and a capstone project. Competencies for graduates of the program include the following abilities:

  • Analyze function and the finance of health care quality and safety and the systems that deliver these services (both US and globally)
  • Identification, interpretation and implementation of policies, guidelines in care and regulations in Health care Quality and Safety

Wilson College

The Department of Business and Economics

Founded in 1869 by two Presbyterian ministers, Wilson College is a private liberal arts college and is still affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Wilson operated as a Women’s College until 2013 when male residential students were admitted to the campus. Master for Health care Management for Sustainability

The curriculum for the Master of Health Care Management for Sustainability program (MHM) provides students with the skills and knowledge required to enter careers of leadership, managing health care organizations, to ensure their financial sustainability within the context of new regulations and reform in todays health care delivery system. The program consists requires completion of at least 30 credits (10 courses) and can be completed on a part-time basis with students attending classes two days per month while continuing in their careers.
