The College of Public Health – Health Sciences Center

The Health Sciences Center at the University of Oklahoma is a comprehensive academic health center with seven professional colleges that include: Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Graduate Studies. Currently the Health Sciences Center enrollment is more than 4,000 students. The Health Science Center awards more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree on campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The mission of the college (as stated by the University) is to “protect and improve the health of the people of Oklahoma, the United States, and other nations through education, public health workforce development, and cutting-edge research”. In 2016, US News and World Reports ranked the College of Public Health as the 37th best Public Health Program in the United States.

Juris Doctor and Master of Health Administration

The dual Juris Doctor and Master of Health Administration (JD/MHA) degree in law and health administration is awarded in collaboration with the College of Law and the College of Public Health. The dual programs objective is combining the 3-year JD and the 2-year MHA into just four years of study. The program provides an in depth study in both law and health administration with an emphasis on the increasing overlap of these fields. The JD degree requires a minimum of 90 credits, and the MHA requires a minimum of 60 credits. A dual-degree student will complete 80 credits of coursework at the law school and will receive 10 credits of relevant coursework completed at the College of Public Health. The College of Public Health allows the dual-degree student 8 credits for relevant coursework completed at the law school. All MHA-JD dual degree students are required to begin their studies at the law school for an entire year. After completion of the first year, the student may begin taking courses at the College of Public Health. A dual-degree student is required to complete both an internship (in accordance with college policies) and an examination covering the internship experience and the student’s coursework at the College of Public Health. Students must be accepted into both colleges separately to enter the dual degree program.

Juris Doctor – Master of Public Health

The dual degree in law and public health culminates in the Juris Doctor degree from the College of Law and the Master of Public Health from the College of Public Health. The objective of the program is to combine the 3-year JD and the 2-year MPH into four years of study. The program works to offer a thorough academic grounding in both law and public health while emphasizing the increasing the convergence of these professional areas. The JD degree requires a minimum of 90 hours, and the MPH requires a minimum of 44 hours. A dual-degree student will actually complete 80 hours of coursework at the law school, while also receiving credit for 10 hours of relevant coursework completed at the College of Public Health. Likewise, the College of Public Health will grant a dual-degree student 8 hours of course credit for relevant courses completed at the law school. All MPH-JD students must begin their studies at the law school for an entire year. After that year, the student may begin taking courses at the College of Public Health. As part of the required 44 MPH hours, a dual-degree student must satisfactorily complete both a Practicum in accordance with College policies and an examination covering the practicum and the student’s coursework at the College of Public Health. Both colleges must accept students (independently) who are interested in the dual program. Both degrees will be awarded during the same academic season.

Doctor of Medicine – Master of Public Health in Health Administration and Policy

The Doctor of Medicine/Master of Public Health in Health Administration and Policy (MD/MPH) dual degree program is offered in conjunction with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, The College of Public Health, and the Graduate College. The program was designed to accommodate students’ interdisciplinary interests in medicine and public health administration. Students pursuing the dual degrees are prepared to practice medicine with the advantage of a background in the study in health administration and policy. Applicants who wish to pursue the MD/MPH dual-degree program must be independently accepted into both the MD degree program and the MPH program. The medical degree (MD) is a traditional four-year program requiring two years of basic sciences, two years of clinical education and curriculum focuses on physician-patient relationships. The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Administration and Policy is a 44 credit program and is usually completed during a year period between completion of the second and third years of medical school, however, some of the course work may be completed before beginning the first year of medical school.

The Michael F. Price College of Business

The Michael F. Price College of Business was founded in 1917 as the School of Public and Private Business. It was one of the first business schools east of the Mississippi and currently has over 3,200 students enrolled. There are eight divisions within the College of Business, including 11 majors. The most popular majors at the Business College are accounting, marketing and supply chain management and finance. Other majors include management information, international business, entrepreneurship and venture management, and general management and energy management. In 2016, US News and World Reports ranked the Michael F. Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma as the 63rd best business school in the country.

Master of Business Administration in Management Information Systems

The Master of Business Administration in Management Information Systems (MBA/MIS) prepares students to understand how information systems impact the performance and add value to organizations. Coursework allows students of analyze and design computer-based information systems based on a thorough comprehension of business and technology theory and practice.The program is available in an evening based format to fit the needs of working professionals. The program can be completed in as little as 24 months, However the program’s flexibility allows students up to five years to complete their MBA program requirements. After the first year of core courses students can choose an area of concentration to pursue specific areas of career interest. Students must complete 14 credits of electives to complete the MBA concentration area. Courses for the MIS program include the following: Database Design and Study, Systems Analysis and Design, Knowledge Management, Project Management, Business Data Analysis, Business Architecture, Advanced Database Management, Information Security and System Design and Application.

Master of Science in Management Information Systems/Master of Business Administration

The Master of Science in Management Information Systems/Master of Business Administration (MS-MIS/MBA) joint program provides students with the skills to develop a core business background with a deeper understanding of information technology. Students are given the information needed to manage within information technology firms as well as other areas of business. The dual program requires 56 total credits for completion. Completion of the dual degree allows students the ability to complete degrees in two different areas of study. Student must satisfy the admission, course, and examination requirements of both programs. Students must be admitted to both programs before 12 credit hours of program work have been completed in either program. The dual degree program allows students to pursue degrees simultaneously in two fields of study. To obtain a dual degree, the student must satisfy the admission, course, and examination requirements of both programs. Master of Science in Management Information Technology

The Master of Science in Management Information Technology (MS-MIT) program places a strong emphasis on Big Data and Analytics, as well as cyber security. Students in this program become equipped with technical and analytical skills as well as business process knowledge required to help design and add value from Information Technology. Students applying to the program are not required to have undergraduate degrees in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business. The MS-MIT program offers a wide variety of options for coursework to allow students to pursue specific areas of career interest. In addition to conducting projects in the class, students can choose to conduct a semester long field project in an actual organization providing them with real-world experience. Depending on their background, students can enhance their coursework with a combination of programming and business courses. The MS in MIS graduate program requires a minimum of 32 credits and is specifically designed for people with an undergraduate degree in other disciplines than MIS who want to pursue a career as information system analysts or designers. Students enrolled in the MS in MIS program will complete the following:

  • 15 credits of core business courses
  • 17 credits of graduate information systems and management course work
  • In place of preparing a master’s thesis, completion of MIS 5993 System Architecture and Design
  • Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Science in Pharmacy Management

Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Science in Pharmacy Management (PharmD-MS) dual degree program provides students a professional and graduate degree program to obtain both their PharmD and MS degrees. This program prepares pharmacists for careers in pharmaceutical education, research, industry, and related areas of specialized practice. The goal of the dual degree program is to allow students to earn a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences within 12 months of completing their Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Students who complete the program will take a minimum of 30 hours of graduate level coursework, conduct original research, and complete a master’s thesis. Only those students currently enrolled in the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy can submit an application for the Pharm/MS dual degree program. Graduate education in Pharmacy Administration includes five areas of emphasis: community and behavioral health sciences, epidemiology, health policy, management and marketing. Research in this area is grounded in the fields of health economics, marketing, and the social and behavioral sciences. The program is available in collaboration with the College of Public Health and the College of Business in addition to the College of Pharmacy. Coursework for the dual program includes:

The College of Public Health

Founded in 1894, the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa (OU-Tulsa) is a private coed university. Students have the opportunity to choose from a more than 30 graduate and selected undergraduate programs in the colleges of Allied Health, Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Liberal Studies, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health. All degree programs have emphasis on community engagement and students in the Organizational Dynamics program invite business leaders to serve as jury members for class case presentations. The OU College of Public Health has been continuously accredited since 1969 and is the only accredited school of public health in Oklahoma. The current undergraduate enrollment is 3,473 students located on a 209-acre campus.

Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program at OU-Tulsa offers a curriculum designed to train students in core public health principles for diverse career opportunities in both traditional and non-traditional public health settings. The MPH coursework explores the major disciplines of public health including a study in health promotion, epidemiology, biostatistics, health administration, and environmental health emphasizing the determinants of community health. The program is designed to be flexible in order to meet the needs of working students. Graduates of the program are prepared to enter careers in community or population health, healthcare or nonprofit program administration, fulfill essential government roles, or transition into medical school, physician assistant or other health professional training program. Students have the opportunity to engage in practice-based learning experiences in the community and midway through the 44-credit-hour curriculum students are eligible to complete a Certification in Public Health credentialing. Students are required to complete a 240-hour practicum in either a public health practice or research setting preparing them to enter the public health workforce.
