The steady increase in the New York healthcare industry has led to a boom in healthcare management degree options. New York is the 27th largest state in the country and with more than 1,320 healthcare management professionals working in New York City in 2014, it is a higher area of growth than other areas of the employment marketplace. Healthcare Services Managers in New York averaged salaries of $121,930, however those professionals with healthcare management master’s degrees from one of the many accredited  programs in this field can expect to earn significantly more, with an expected 13 percent growth in salaries in coming years. Cornell University

College of Human Ecology

Founded in 1865, Cornell University is an American private Ivy League research university located in Ithaca, New York. Master of Health Administration

Founded in 1955, the Sloan Program in Health Administration was the country’s first master’s of health administration program to adopt a two-year academic curriculum. The 60-credit MHA program (Non Thesis) takes two years for completion and the coursework includes healthcare delivery and finance, management, population health, quantitative analysis and methods, law and ethics, accounting, economics, health policy, and strategic management. The coursework provides students the opportunity to meet with alumni or other healthcare practitioners while gaining exposure to healthcare methods, analyses, and delivery. Students are admitted in fall semester only and are required to participate in a full time 10-week summer internship. Between the first and second years of the program students select summer internships within healthcare organizations located around the world.

Master of Health Administration/Master of Business Administration Dual Degree

The dual MHA/MBA provides students with a strong foundation in general management with specialized knowledge in healthcare management. Students are given powerful knowledge, skills, and applied experience to build upon. Graduates of the dual-degree program have the opportunity to enter dynamic and meaningful careers in management positions in a wide range of healthcare organizations. Graduates of the program hold positions in the pharmaceutical industry, health insurance, management consulting, financial institutions, state and federal policy agencies. The Johnson MBA provides a core curriculum in functional areas of business including accounting, finance, economics, marketing, operations management, strategy, and leadership. The Sloan Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree provides students with a solid foundation in the health industry with specialized healthcare focused coursework including health care organizations, finance, organizational behavior and human resources management, health policy, health care ethics, legal aspects of health care, quality improvement, comparative health systems, physician practice management, long term care, health facility planning, and supply chain management. The dual degree program offers applied learning opportunities and the chance to work in small teams. Master of Healthcare Administration/Master of Public Administration

The Cornell Master of Healthcare Administration/Master of Public Administration (MHA/MPA) program is a three-year, 90-credit dual degree program through the Cornell Institute of Public Administration (CIPA) and the Sloan Program in Health Administration. The program allows students to complete both degrees in three years, eliminating duplicating coursework. The goal of the MHA/MPA program is to combine training in public administration with training in management as it applies to health administration, the organization of the health care sector, health policy, and public health. The CIPA curriculum provides general public management skills with a broad understanding of politics of domestic and international public policy. Sloan allows students an understanding of management and organizational skills for advancing healthcare delivery and the health and well being of individuals, families, and communities. The dual MHA/MPA program will prepare students for careers in healthcare with a focus on health policy as healthcare managers in policy oriented positions both domestically and abroad.

Accelerated Bachelor of Science/Master of Health Administration

For acceptance into the dual degree program, students must be a Cornell undergraduate students enrolled in one of the following majors in the College of Human Ecology: Human Biology Health and Society, Human Development, Policy Analysis and Management or Biology and Society as well as CLAS students majoring in Biology and Society. Students may apply to the accelerated program during their junior year and to be deemed eligible they are required to complete all necessary courses for both their major and their college by the end of their junior year. At the end of the senior year, accelerated students will graduate with their bachelor’s degree in their undergraduate major. Students have the opportunity to participate in a graduate-level health administration internship during the summer after graduation with their bachelor’s degree. The following year, as graduate students, they will complete the second year of required Sloan courses and earn a Master of Health Administration degree. Graduates of the Accelerated Program have outstanding employment and fellowship opportunities; in recent years 100 percent are placed within three months of graduation. Graduates work in hospitals, health organizations, management consulting firms and a variety of health related organizations.

Weill Cornell Medical College

Founded in 1898, The Weill Cornell Medical College at Cornell University is located in New York City’s “science corridor,” near other health and research institutions including the Sloan-Kettering Institute and Rockefeller University. Weill Cornell Medical College is affiliated with institutions including New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. The Medical College is divided into 24 basic science and patient care departments that focus on the sciences underlying clinical medicine and/or encompass the study, treatment, and prevention of human diseases. Students in the full-time program can complete the program in 12 months, and part-time students can complete the program in 18 to 24 months.

Master of Science in Health Informatics

The Master of Science in Health Informatics (MS-HI) program prepares students to become top researchers and practitioners while effectively using informatics to organize, coordinate, manage and deliver high quality healthcare. The MS-HI program prepares students for future careers within healthcare delivery system, health insurance, technology development, consulting and academia. Founded in 1947, Daemen College is a private coed Liberal Arts College located in Amherst New York. There are more than 30 undergraduate programs and 6 graduate programs with a total enrollment of 2,156 students on the 35-acre campus. Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program at Daemen College is comprised of competencies in the five key public health areas: biostatistics, epidemiology, health services administration, health education/behavioral science, and environmental health. Students are also required to take part in a practicum, providing them real-world applications of their training to build experience working directly with public health professionals. A capstone project provides students with the additional opportunity to investigate a public health problem in their specific area of interest. The Daemen College MPH program also offers three specialty tracks of study – Epidemiology, Community Health Education, and a Generalist Track. Students may choose a focus in Global Health, which provides students with the opportunity for tailoring their education toward an increased understanding of global public health issues.
