The Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a Certification in Healthcare program is designed for flexibility with classes meeting just once a week in convenient eight-week sessions. Most classes meet in the evening to fit your work schedule. (Some classes in the MBA’s health management track meet in the day.) The MBA degree requires 36 semester hours of credit consisting of three sections: General Knowledge, Required Core, and an area of emphasis to specify degree to future career goals. Courses in the Health Care Management track include: Transcultural Healthcare, Health Care Leadership and Management I, Critical Issues in Health Care, Finance and Accounting in the Health Care System and Economic Policy in the Health Care System. Located in Omaha Nebraska, The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is a public center of health sciences research, patient care, and education founded as a private medical college in 1880. Master of Public Health
The Mission of the College of Public Health is “promoting optimal health and well-being through robust education, research, and service in collaboration with communities in Nebraska, across the country, and around the world.” The Master of Public Health Program (MPH) is a 45-credit professional Master’s Degree Program is designed to prepare graduates for work in public health. Core coursework is focused on the areas of knowledge required for career in public health. The MPH program emphasizes prevention, scientific knowledge base with other areas of knowledge and practice, and social justice. Graduates of the MPH program are prepared to be a part of the solution in improving population health. The MPH program focuses on the five academic core domains of public health including: epidemiology, biostatistics, health administration, promotion of health, and environmental health. A Capstone experience, allowing students learning in the field and gathering data for a final project, prepares the student to go out into the world, equipped and prepared for future responsibilities.
MPH Concentration in Biostatistics
The Biostatistics concentration provides students the required biostatistics and quantitative skills and knowledge for future careers in public health practice and public health research. This concentration is designed to fulfill the needs of those professionals working in public health and wanting to broaden their education by learning the statistical/quantitative evaluation of public health research and programs. Students gain the ability to conceptualize and define a public health problem to develop an appropriate study design, plan and implement proper statistical analyses, and to interpret and report the results of a study. The programs coursework focuses on the methods typically used in analyzing different types of public health data with an opportunity to apply these methods to real-world problems.
MPH Concentration in Community Oriented Primary Care
The MPH concentration in Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC) is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, tools, and skills in community orientation of health services required for the application of the COPC approach. The COPC approach combines the clinical individual care with public health, allowing both be implemented and carried out by a single team. The main concepts of COPC and the curriculum of this concentration allow the implementation of community health care programs as a component of public health. The Epidemiology concentration provides the necessary tools required in understanding a public health problem, to design an epidemiological study, to collect and analyze data, and to interpret and report study results. Coursework focuses on the determinants, distribution, dynamics, and etiology of disease in populations and include proposal and report writing, the promotion of good health practices, the prevention of disease, and the evaluation of public health policy and programs. Students are required to choose 13 credit hours from the following courses:

The MPH concentration in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) allows students an understanding of the study of Maternal and Child Health throughout the lifespan stages, from preconception through pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and senescence. This approach addresses the health status at each stage of the lifespan and also the effects that health in one stage has in later stages. A life course approach studies the determinants of health such as the biological, behavioral, socio-cultural, and environmental factors, and also the influences of policies and politics reflects on the health status of mothers, children, adolescents, and families. The MCH concentration focus is on equity, social justice, and human rights. Students are prepared for careers as Maternal and Child Health professionals in practice (program planning and management, advocacy, policy making) and research that has an impact locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
