Master of Health Administration
The mission of Park’s Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program is to “prepare new generations of health leaders committed to designing and delivering programs and services to the global community that meet the needs of health care consumers, providers and the community-at-large, in order to create organizations and systems that serve the evolving health needs of society”. The program is designed to prepare learners for the health care challenges of a global society by teaching students innovative approaches to health care management and leadership. For flexibility in learning style to accommodate working individuals courses in the Healthcare Administration Program are offered both online and on the campus center in downtown Kansas City. Program goals for the MHA program include:
- Knowledge of the structure and organization of health systems in the U.S. and internationally.
- Skills in the management of health organizations including a strong foundation in the financial, economic, legal, and leadership theories and practices unique to health organizations.
- Understand health care systems, nationally and internationally, from a comparative perspective.
- Ability to design and lead marketing and strategic planning efforts within an organization as well as health care systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate within health care settings.
- Collecting, manage, mine and analyze healthcare data to make data-based decisions benefiting the health of populations.
- Use statistics, quality improvement and research methodology in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of decision-making.
- Understand the law, ethics and policy issues that affect health care and the need to take into account diverse laws, standards, values, morals, and cultural ethics.
- Competency in measuring and utilizing evidence-based outcomes and capable of leading institutional and system-wide quality improvement efforts.
- Knowledge of population health, health-related behaviors and needs of diverse populations when designing health care delivery systems.

Master of Public Health
A Master of Public Health (MPH) enables students to become leaders in the diverse areas of public health practice, including biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, health management and policy, and social and behavioral sciences. Core curriculum for the MPH program includes: Behavioral Science and Public Health, Principles of Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, Principles of Epidemiology, Mission and Practice of Global Public Health, Ethical Issues in Public Health, and Managerial Aspects of Public Health Practice. The MPH program requires a minimum total of Forty-two credit hours for completion. MPH graduates are employed in federal, state and local health agencies, consulting firms, consumer advocacy organizations, hospitals, and healthcare systems as well as in private business and industry. Students of the MPH program may choose an area of concentration to meet their specific career objectives including:
- Concentration in Behavioral Science and Health Education: The MPH in Behavioral Science and Health Education allows students the skills and knowledge required to design, implement and evaluate programs, policies, and environmental changes needed to improve community health. Students are prepared to enter leadership roles in the field applying their skills in diverse careers. Curriculum for the Concentration includes: Community Diagnosis, Health Communication, Health Promotion Program Planning, Health Promotion Program Evaluation, Historical, Philosophical and Political Bases of Public Health and Health Education, Health Care Organizations, and a Capstone in Behavioral Science and Health Education. A minimum of Forty-eight credit hours is required for completion of the program.
- Concentration in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness: The MPH in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness provides students with the knowledge required in developing preparedness programs addressing consequences of bioterrorism and emerging infectious diseases. This concentration combines traditional classroom work with online courses as part of the concentration curriculum. Upon graduation, students are prepared for roles in public health departments, federal agencies and in private industry in a variety of settings and positions. Some career paths in biosecurity and disaster preparedness include: Disaster Epidemiologist, Mitigation & Recovery Strategist and Consultants in Emergency Management. Coursework for the forty-eight credit hour program includes: Behavioral and Cultural Aspects of Disaster Response, Communicable Diseases and Infection Control, Disaster Communications and Media Relations, Disaster Management and Risk Analysis, Disaster Planning for Infectious Disease Disasters, Fundamentals of Disaster Planning, Public Health and Disasters and a Capstone in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness.
- Concentration in Biostatistics: Students of the MPH in Biostatistics will be prepared to manage, analyze, and interpret biological and health science data. By learning principles of mathematics, computer programming, statistics and public health in the field of biostatistics, students will help to improve the health of communities. Biostatisticians are prepared for careers in government, industry, and academia. The forty-eight credit hour Concentration Curriculum includes: Applied Data Management, Categorical Data Analysis, Epidemiology Methods II, Introduction to General Linear Modeling, Statistical Programming and Study Planning and a Capstone in Biostatistics.
- Concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health: Students enrolled in the MPH in Environmental and Occupational Health program are prepared to collect and interpret information needed to determine and control the risks to human health caused by exposure to biological, chemical and physical agents. Upon graduation students of the program are prepared to enter careers in environmental consulting, corporate industrial hygiene and safety, product stewardship, research, and policy. Concentration Curriculum includes: Biological Hazards in Modern and Developing Countries, Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology, Evaluation of Environmental Hazards, Human Toxicology and Environmental Health, Human Health Risk Analysis, Policy, Science and Decisions in Environmental Health and a Capstone in Environmental and Occupational Health. A minimum of forty-eight credit hours is required for completion of the program.
- Concentration in Epidemiology: The MPH in Epidemiology prepares students with knowledge of the determinants of disease and risk factors in populations. Students are prepared for careers as project managers, study coordinators and directors of outcomes research in health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hospitals and healthcare systems such as Public Health Epidemiologists, Epidemiology Intelligence Officers and Health Data Analysts. The forty-eight credit hour program curriculum includes: Categorical Data Analysis, Epidemiology Methods II, Introduction to General Linear Modeling, Statistical Programming and Study Planning and a Capstone in Epidemiology.
- Concentration in Global Health: The MPH in Global Health prepares students for careers in global public health practice. Students have opportunities to study in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. With a combination of classroom experience, cultural and language immersion and practice experience in the field, Students spend at least one semester abroad or do their practice experience outside of the United States. Documented working proficiency in both English and in a second language is required to complete the MPH in Global Health. Students who must improve their language skills to meet these requirements will have opportunities to do so through language immersion programs. Career opportunities in Global Health include: Government and international health agencies (CDC, WHO, PAHO), International non-government organizations (NGOs), Faith-based public health and global health missions and relief organizations, Global health practices as a physician, nurse or public health leader, as Global health experts working with multi-national corporations or as Global health experts working in diplomatic organizations.
- Health Management and Policy: Students of the MPH in Health Management and Policy are prepared to formulate, lead and manage solutions for complex issues facing today’s healthcare system. Graduates are prepared to enter roles as managers in healthcare organizations or analysts for public /private organizations assisting in delivery, financing or assessment of healthcare services. MPH in Health Management and Policy graduates are in health management and policy as: Health Policy Consultants, Managers in non-government organizations (NGO), Research Policy Analyst, Health Care Administrators, Government Advocacy Specialists, and as Health Care Analysts.
- Concentration in Maternal and Child Health: The MPH in Maternal and Child Health provides students with a broad exposure to the most pressing needs of maternal and child health populations domestically and globally. Coursework focuses is designing and evaluating maternal and child health programs and the leadership skills needed to advocate for mothers and their children. Students who graduate with this concentration pursue careers in public health departments, federal agencies, and private industry. Some of the career paths in maternal and child health include: Project Managers, Community Health Educators, Outreach Specialists and Health Data Analysts.
- Concentration in Public Health: This MPH in Public health is specifically designed for public health, health care and social service professionals seeking to further increase competency in public health practice. The MPH degree tailored for practitioners in public health, health care and social service who have specialized knowledge in their field but who seek an increased level of understanding principles of population health and technical skills in the foundation of public health practice. Students with this MPH degree will have a greater understanding of the overall field of public health by developing their specific skills to enhance their administrative and leadership abilities.

Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) is designed for students who seek training in population-based research methods needed to support their clinical research activities. Students complete a research project incorporating the principles of behavioral science and health education or epidemiology, depending on the student’s concentration to allow students to prepare a manuscript of publishable quality. There are two areas of concentration in the MSPH program available:
- Behavioral Science and Health Education: The thirty-six credit hour concentration includes core coursework in behavioral science research methods with a specialization in public health and ethical issues as they apply to public health.
- Epidemiology: This thirty-six credit hour concentration provides core coursework in epidemiology and biostatistics with specialization of coursework in public health.
