Master of Science in Pharmacy Administration

The Master of Science (MS) in Pharmacy Administration is offered in conjunction with the Division of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Sciences and offers thesis and non-thesis track Master of Science degree programs. The thesis track is designed for students who aspire to enter a Ph.D. program or who are interested in careers that are research-oriented. Curriculum for the MS in Pharmacy Administration offers students competencies needed in the principles and theories in a variety of areas in medical psychology, medical sociology, marketing, and economics required to address health care problems at both the individual patient and population level. Graduates of the program develop administrative, financial and leadership skills related to health-system administration, which will enable them to manage complex health-system pharmacy departments at the institutional and department levels or as researchers understanding the social, psychosocial, political, legal, marketing, and economic factors that influence the appropriate and efficient use of pharmaceuticals and diverse health care services. Coursework includes marketing/customer service, health economics, research methods, health care financial management, and medication errors. Students may take approved courses in business, health management systems, and education and in the College of Liberal Arts to fulfill degree requirements. Graduates of the MS in Pharmaceutical Administration program enter careers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, as well as in government and academia, serving vital leadership roles in all areas.

Duquesne University

The Rangos School of Health Sciences

Duquesne University, located in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is home to the Rangos School of Health Sciences. In 1990, Dr. John E. Murray Junior (then President of Duquesne University) founded the Rangos School with a mission to educate students to “become clinical practice professionals who will master their clinical skills in state-of-the-industry laboratories and enjoy diverse internship and clinical placements throughout the vast health care community of western Pennsylvania”. The Health Management Systems degree program integrates health care, business management, and information systems. East Stroudsburg University

The College of Arts and Science – Department of Health Studies

East Stroudsburg University is a coed public university located in East Stroudsburg Pennsylvania. The University is one of the fourteen state universities that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The school was originally founded in 1893 as a preparatory school for teachers it was originally named the East Stroudsburg Normal School. East Stroudsburg awards 68 undergraduate major programs with 24 available concentrations as well as a variety of graduate degree options. The Mission Statement (as stated by East Stroudsburg) is “providing challenging and contemporary undergraduate and graduate curriculum engaging and equipping students to critically appraise and apply knowledge in their lives and chosen fields of study to enter in positions of leadership and service in the educational, cultural and economic development of the region”. In 2016, US News and World Reports ranked East Stroudsburg University as the 131st best Northern Regional University. The campus is home to 62 beautiful campus buildings, located on the 213-acre campus. The school’s varsity teams compete in NCAA Division II in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Master of Public Health

The curriculum for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program prepares students for future careers within the field of public health as researchers and practitioners working to prevent disease and improve the quality of life in communities. The MPH program prepares students to improve the quality of life within the community, state, country, and the world. Coursework for the program includes core public health disciplines of Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Administration, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Education

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Education is a 45-credit program, including a six-credit (300-hour) internship requirement, a requirement to pass a comprehensive oral exam and a requirement to conduct research resulting in a published paper. The MPH in Community Health Education program combines traditional public health course work with professional training in community health education preparing graduates for careers in a variety of public health settings or to pursue doctorate work. Careers for graduates include program development, implementing and evaluating population-based prevention programs in order to promote healthy behaviors and prevent disease and to develop health policies protecting individuals from risk factors resulting in negative health outcomes. Generally, students entering the program have a background in a variety of social service occupations with undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in the social behavioral sciences (health education, psychology, anthropology or sociology) or in nursing, medicine, biology, and various other fields. The specialization in Community Health Education prepares graduates to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam. This certification indicates that they have the requisite skills in developing, planning, implementing and evaluating programs.

Master of Science in Health Education

The Master of Science (MS) in Health Education program is specifically designed for those students interested in pursuing health education careers in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, communities, and industry. Generally, students entering the program have a bachelor’s degree in health education, biology, computer science, psychology, nursing, nutrition, sociology, physical education, and the allied health area, among others. Coursework prepares students to become qualified practitioners in the areas of health education and public health to enhance the quality of life through promoting health and eliminating disparities. Future career settings for graduates of the program include health agencies, nonprofits, academia, and health care organizations. Health Education draws from biological, environmental, psychological, social, physical and medical sciences resulting in the promotion of health and preventing disease, disability, and premature death. Thirty credits are required for completion of the MS program.

Elizabethtown College

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies

Elizabeth College is a small liberal arts college located in Elizabethtown Pennsylvania in Lancaster County. The College offers academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional studies with most programs available in an accelerated format (taking one course at a time, meeting once or twice per week to focus on each subject area). Elizabethtown is one of many institutions founded in the 19th century by churches or church members interested in the educational advancement of their denominational membership. The College was founded in 1899 by members of the Church of the Brethren, responding to an initiative by Jacob G Francis who advocated for Elizabethtown because of the proximity to the railways. Master of Business Administration with Health care Electives

Completion of the general Elizabethtown MBA program includes the following elements:

  • Thirty-six credits for completion (10 core courses + 2 elective courses)
  • Forty-two credits for completion for those who require competency in foundational areas (2 foundational courses, 10 core courses plus 2 elective courses)

All of the classes are delivered through six, eight-week sessions each academic year, and include a combination of online and on-campus course work. This combination of online and campus learning is referred to as step-in and step-out flexibility. The campus locations where MBA courses are offered include the Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses. Students with an interest in a career involving the business side of the health care industry can choose to complete elective courses in health care to cater their academic plan. By completing these courses students can build their general business acumen while also learning about the nuances of the health care industry.

Founded in 1925, Gannon University is a private coed Diocesan Catholic university located in Eerie Pennsylvania.
