Master’s in Healthcare Management Degrees in Oregon – P-U

The Pacific University Health Professions Campus is a satellite campus of Pacific University and is located in Hillsboro, Oregon. Founded in 2006, The College of Health Professions (CHP) is home to eight schools and students at Pacific University have many opportunities to engage in learning experiences and programs facilitating the qualities and skills necessary to practice in a changing health care environment. Master of Health Administration

Coursework for the Master of Health Administration program (MHA) provides students with a study of leadership and ethics, finance and operations, epidemiology and health policy, regulation and compliance, gerontology, and project management. In order to meet the constant changes in healthcare and the modern complexity facing leaders in healthcare today, curriculum for the MHA provides students with the skills, knowledge and professional growth needed to enter careers as highly trained healthcare leaders. Students have the opportunity to develop professional networks and build complex analytical skills through internships and capstone projects. Portland State University

The College of Urban and Public Affairs – Mark O. Hatfield School of Government

Portland State University (PSU) is a public coed research university located in downtown Portland, Oregon. Originally founded in 1946 as educational institution for World War II veterans, it became a four-year college over the next two decades and was granted university status in 1969. It remains the only public urban university in the state of Oregon located in a major metropolitan city. Master of Public Health in Health Promotion

Completion of the MPH in Health Promotions program requires at least 60 credits of coursework including:

  • 17 credits of core MPH courses
  • 28 credits of required Community Health track courses
  • 6 credits of Internship
  • 9 credits of specific area of interest coursework

The Master of Public Health in Health Promotion is offered in conjunction with the Oregon Master of Public Health program in conjunction with Oregon Health and Science University. Graduates of the program are prepared with the skills and knowledge required to enter careers in public or health services administration, planning, policy, evaluation, consulting, and related careers. The mission of the joint Oregon MPH Program is “providing innovative education, leadership, research, and service in public health throughout the state and beyond”. The MPH curriculum provides students with a competency-based public health education preparing them to implement strategies in the diverse communities they serve, achieving sustainable health for all, and eliminating health disparities. Competencies for graduates of the MPH in Health Promotions program include the following abilities:

The mission of the Master of Public Health in Health Management and Policy (MPH/HMP) is “preparing current and future health leaders with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to enter leadership roles for careers in health systems management across a range of institutional settings including hospitals, health systems, government, research, advocacy, and nonprofit community-based organizations”. Curriculum for the MPH/HMP provides student with the skills and knowledge required for leadership in the fields of education, research, and service in all aspects of the public’s health. Competencies for graduates of MPH/Health Management and Policy program includes the following abilities:

  • Communicate ethics, values, responsibilities, obligations and social roles of a member of the health services administration profession

Master of Public Administration in Health Administration and Policy

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) curriculum prepares students for administrative positions in government and nonprofit organizations. Coursework studies topics including human resource management, administrative theory and behavior, public policy, public administration, financial management, public budgeting, administrative ethics and values, administrative law and policy implementation, and analytic methods. Additionally, MPA students can choose a specific area of specialization in order to meet their specific to their career interests. The School of Business Administration

Located in Portland Oregon, Portland State includes seven colleges including the School of Business Administration, Graduate School of Education, College of the Arts, School of Social Work, College of Urban and Public Affairs, Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The university offers 123 fields of undergraduate study and 117 field of graduate study.
The School of Business Administration offers Undergrad and Graduate majors that includes Business Administration, Financial Analysis, International Management, Marketing and Logistics. Portland State participates in the Big Sky Conference in NCAA Division I level basketball, women’s volleyball, golf, soccer, wrestling, tennis, softball, indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country. The School of Nursing

Located in Portland Oregon, The University of Portland is an independent, coed Catholic university affiliated with the Congregation of Holy Cross. Founded in 1901, the university provides programs of study of the arts, sciences, and humanities and through studies in majors and professional programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Clinical Nurse Leader Masters

The Clinical Nurse Leader Masters (CNL) degree program prepares students for future careers as leaders in nursing care of clients in a variety of settings. The curriculum for the CNL program focuses on the preparation for nurses to be prepared to function in leadership roles, managing and coordinating care in an inter-professional team setting. Additionally, coursework in Integrative Health Concepts and Advanced Clinical Foundations are emphasized. Students in this program develop CNL role proficiency while participating 500 hours of clinical experience in three clinical practicums including: CNL Practice I, CNL Practice II and CNL Residency. Graduates of the program have maintained a 98 percent pass rate on the Commission on Nurse Certification CNL Certification Exam. The program is offered in a blended format of classroom weekend sessions and web-based learning. Weekends include full day class on Saturdays and Sundays once per month/per semester. Students are required clinical experiences during the last three semesters of the program. The CNL master’s program can be completed in 24 months and requires 2 to 4 courses per semester. Competencies for graduates of the CNL Masters Program include the following abilities:

  • Exhibit leadership in healthcare delivery systems by effecting change via knowledge, advocacy and effective communication resulting in quality client outcomes and integration of care for clients
  • Function as care environment managers who will delegate and use effectively systems assessment, nursing, and interdisciplinary team resources and information systems and technology in the improvement healthcare outcomes
  • Managing clinical outcomes for groups of patients through advanced nursing practice using designed care, evidence-based guidelines, and quality care standards in facilitating client and provider teaching and learning

Healthcare in the United States is currently a $1.7 trillion industry. Healthcare reform, combined with an aging population, has driven the demand for a well-trained healthcare workforce in both the clinical and administrative settings.
