The primary mission of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport (LSUHSC-S) is “to teach, heal, and discover in order to advance the well being of the community”.

Master of Public Health

The forty-eight credit hour Master of Public Health at LSU-Shreveport is offered in conjunction with LSU Shreveport and the Louisiana State University Health Science Center at Shreveport to prepare students for careers in their communities, state, federal, and private sectors within health organizations, health services, research institutions and institutions of academia. The program offers students the skills and knowledge to enter careers in the Public Health Field. Students are required to complete fifteen credit hours in the five areas of core knowledge as designated by the Council for Public Health (CEPH) and twenty-one credit hours in Public Health Related courses are also required. For program completion, students are required to complete a three credit hour practicum (3 credit hours) and have the option of completing a MPH Capstone project (3 credit hours) or Master’s thesis (6 credit hours). Students who choose the MPH Capstone project will complete an additional three credits of electives.

The Career Outlook for careers in nonprofits is positive and according to the Nonprofit HR Solutions’ 2010 Nonprofit Employment Trends Survey, thirty-six percent of nonprofits plan to create new positions this year. In today’s atmosphere of privatization, non- profit organizations are seeking executive leaders with sharp business and managing skills while still effective in making the changes required at a community level. Objectives for the program include:

Louisiana Tech University

The College of Applied and Natural Sciences

Located in Ruston Louisiana, Louisiana Technical University (also known as Louisiana Tech) is a public institution founded in 1894 with a total enrollment of 11,015 students in five academic colleges, including 1,770 students enrolled in the graduate school. In the 2014 edition of US News and World Reports Best Colleges, Louisiana Tech was ranked at the 190th Best National Tier 1 University (the only Tier 1 national university in the University of Louisiana System). Master of Health Informatics

Professionals in Health Informatics and Information Management are those who collect, integrate, and analyze primary and secondary health care data to publish and manage information and the resources related to the research, planning, delivery and the evaluation of healthcare services. The mission of the Master of Health Informatics (MHI) program is “preparing confident, innovative, and contributing professionals who can identify and use a variety of information systems resources and technologies to accomplish the informatics and information management objectives of diverse healthcare practice environments”. 
The program is designed to be flexible in format for those students currently employed while completing their education. Available in an online format, students interact with faculty and fellow students via online lectures, e-mail, electronic bulletin boards, and a digital drop box. Requirements for the Master of Health Informatics degree include a minimum of thirty-nine credit hours.

In the United States Healthcare is becoming a booming business and is projected to continue to grown in the coming years.
