Master’s in Healthcare Management Degrees in Indiana – A-I

School of Public Health

Located in Bloomington Illinois, Indiana University Bloomington (IU Bloomington or IU) is a public coed research university with an enrollment of over 42,081 students. IU Bloomington is the flagship institution of the Indiana University and its largest university. As a publicly funded university it is considered comparable to the quality of an Ivy League education. Master of Public Health

Public health is the science of preventing disease and promoting health at the population level. IU Bloomington’s Master of Public Health Degree prepares students for executive roles in the public health field to help communities to build and preserve health habits, prevent disease, addiction, and other epidemics within a population. The MPH degree offers eight concentrations for specialization:

  • The Behavioral, Social and Community Health concentration allows students to focus on the social and behavioral sciences necessary to understand behaviors in health to develop and implement interventions. Coursework includes the understanding of social, behavioral, and cultural origins in public health, to design, implement, and evaluate health behavioral interventions, and service in community-based settings.
  • The Biostatistics concentration allows students in the Public Health program the ability to enhance their education linking scientist, researcher, statistician and programmer. Students specializing in Biostatistics have the opportunities to collaborate on research projects in the private sector as well as in Federal and State agencies to prepare for careers in Academia, government and private industry. Coursework include experimental analysis, research design, multivariate statistical analysis, and other statistical methods.
  • The Environmental Health Concentration allows students basic understanding of the impact different environmental factors has on the health of the general population and individuals. Environmental health ensures communities are clean, safe and able to meet the needs of their inhabitants and environmental health specialists work in local government or state agencies.
  • Epidemiology is the study of health within populations in order to gain an understanding of causes and patterns of health and illness. The concentration in Epidemiology allows students basic understanding of the design of studies in human populations through clinical studies, population disease surveillance, human subject ethics, risk assessment and communication, biostatistics and data analysis.
  • The Family Health Concentration curriculum provides students the skills and knowledge to address socio-economic, cultural, political and physiological issues affecting the health of families within communities.
  • The MPH concentration in Professional Health Education allows a focus on health to understand the interpersonal, community and legislative issues to promote positive health behaviors within communities. Graduates pursue careers in Public Health as community health educators in public and private organizations.
  • Public Health Administration concentration allows MPH students a focus on the planning, organization, administration, management and analyzing policies health programs for future careers in Public Health.
  • The MPH concentration in Physical Activity allows students to use physical activity to develop interventions in community health, the methodology needed in assessing physical activity in a diverse population in the community, knowledge in understanding in relationship of physical activity and health in life-span, and how to design, implement, and evaluate the strategies to effectively promote physical activity intervention in a diverse community setting. Students will have the opportunity to work with faculty to explore health games, worksite wellness, recreation, and disabilities.

Graduates are prepared to enter the Public Health field as leaders in business, education, government and public and private healthcare sector. As a full time curriculum the forty-three credit hour program generally takes two years for completion.

Established in 1969 as a partnership between Indiana and Purdue Universities, the Indiana University, Purdue University (known as IUPUI) is a public coeducational University located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Master of Health Administration

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) allows students the knowledge and competencies for careers in healthcare administration management within hospitals and other health services organizations. The Master’s degree program is designed to give students a core understanding of issues within management to prepare them for senior management roles. Students in the MHA program are prepared for careers in healthcare by the paid practicum experiences in the health care field and through mentor program of individual students with local health care executives, and health-related part-time positions. The fifty-one credit hour MHA program includes curriculum with coursework in financial management, accounting, marketing, economics, human resources management, information systems, law, ethics, and policy. The MHA program allows excellent exposure to the health care field and may allow entry-level part time work opportunities for full time students.

Master of Public Health

With the ability for added flexibility in course schedule to meet the needs of those individuals pursuing careers, enrollment is available with a part-time or full-time curriculum and with classes available in the daytime as well as evenings. Classes are also available online or in a combined format (online and in class). The MPH degree can be combined with other IUPUI graduate and professional degrees, including law, medicine, dentistry, health administration, social work, and bioethics. The forty-five credit hour Master of Public Health (MPH) offers five areas of concentration:

  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

Master of Science Biostatistics

The Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics is a 42 credit hour program, combining biology and statistics to allow competency in the skills and knowledge of public health, biomedical research, genetics, and pharmacology. Coursework includes mathematical statistics including the role of statistics in research, study design, data management, and statistical analysis. Curriculum includes Principles of Biostatistics, Statistical Computing and Epidemiology. Graduates of the MSB program will be skilled in designing, analyzing and interpreting study results in clinical trials, medicals surveys, evaluation programs and studies in epidemiology. Upon graduation students are prepared for careers in:

Located in Marion Indiana, Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is a private, evangelical Christian liberal arts University affiliated with the Wesleyan Church denomination. Master of Public Health

IWU’s Master of Public Health (MPH) is a forty-six credit-hour Master’s degree program to prepare students for a career in public health. Coursework provides a concentration of studies in the five core areas of public health:

  • Social and Behavioral Studies

Using a Christian based foundation, students attend in-classroom sessions for five consecutive days during August of the first year followed by the remainder of studies covered in a fully online format.
