The Master of Public Health is offered in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Health and the College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The MPH program offers concentrations in the following areas of public health:
The Biostatistics Concentration prepares students for careers as statistical consultants, data analysts, or project managers in healthcare related organizations including state and federal health care organizations, pharmaceuticals, research organizations with a focus on clinical trials, consulting companies, and academia requiring bio-statistical support.
The Epidemiology Concentration provides students with an education in designing human population studies, clinical studies, population disease surveillance, human ethics, risk assessment, risk communication, basic biostatistics, and data analysis. Graduates of the MPH in Epidemiology program are prepared for careers as research study coordinators, project managers, or technical specialist in health related organizations (those focusing on population health assessment or research programs focused on population factors related to health outcomes or clinical trials), in local, state or federal government, academia.
The Environmental Public Health Concentration prepares students to take and/or advance careers in public health related fields. Graduates of the MPH with a concentration in environmental health are appropriately trained to assume leadership positions in agencies including, but not limited to, the Environmental Protection Agency, National Institutes of Occupational Safety and Health, local health departments, state health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, non-profit agencies and for-profit agencies.
The Specialization in Health Education provides students with the skills required to pursue careers as health educators in public health agencies, voluntary health agencies, business and industry, and healthcare organizations. Students in the health education concentration must complete 18 credits of core MPH courses, 18 credits in approved Health Education concentration courses, and 9 credits in practicum and capstone study. Graduates are prepared to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam.
The Occupational Health (OPH) Concentration prepares students to pursue or advance careers in Occupational Health. For Occupational Medicine residents, completion of their MPH degree with an OPH concentration fulfills important requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) as residents prepare for their board certification in Preventive Medicine with a specialty in Occupational Medicine. Non-residents pursuing the MPH degree with a concentration in Occupational Public Health will have different core requirements but share classes and the practicum experiences with the Occupational Medicine residents. Graduates of the OPH concentration are prepared to enter leadership positions in government agencies, universities, corporate medical departments, hospital occupational medicine departments, insurance companies, and occupational medicine practices
The Concentration in Health Services Management prepares graduates for careers in leadership positions within public health, healthcare and associated human services organizations. Master of Health Administration
The online Master of Health Administration program (MHA) provides students with an individualized curriculum in health care administration and management.
