HCMTopMaster's Degree ProgramsBy Kristen Fescoe
Posted March, 2015

Healthcare Management and Administration is an up and coming area within the Healthcare Industry that employs more and more individuals each year who have earned a Graduate Healthcare Management Degree. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, the field of Healthcare Administration will likely experience a 23 percent rate of growth for the next ten years and beyond. With so many new jobs, this career option is becoming more and more attractive. A master’s degree in this area will offer many career opportunities in a variety of different settings. For students seeking a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management there are a number of programs being offered by “Up and Coming” schools.

Ranking Methodology

This ranking list was created to evaluate the top-ranked Up and Coming Healthcare Management Master’s Degree programs in the United States. This means that while some of these schools have not reached the top level of the ranking system, they are making changes and additions that will move them to the top academic tier in the very near future.

The first criterion of this ranking list is based upon each school’s placement on the U.S. News & World Report’s list of “Up and Coming Schools.” This list is formulated by asking college presidents, provosts and admissions deans throughout the United States to nominate up to 10 colleges in their own U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges ranking category “that are making improvements in academics, faculty, students, campus life, diversity and facilities. These schools are worth watching because they are making promising and innovative changes.”

Second, preference is given to schools that are fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). This is an accrediting body, comprised of an interdisciplinary group of educational, professional, clinical, and commercial organizations. Their goal is to promote accountability and quality improvement of education for healthcare management and administration professionals.

The final area of ranking includes a combination of additional U.S. News & World Report rankings, tuition cost, and other accreditations.
