Over the past twenty years, the field of healthcare management has seen a dramatic rise in educational opportunities as well as employment options. This is largely due to the changes in healthcare and its delivery. One of the ways that interested individuals can become healthcare managers is by taking a graduate degree in public health. In an article titled “The Untilled Fields of Public Health,” written by the esteemed Dr. Charles Winslow, he defined public health as, “the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals.” According to this helpful definition, a public health degree is an excellent way to pursue work in a variety of settings within the healthcare industry in order to work toward the ultimate goal of preventing disease. Careers in public health include work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, governmental agencies, and many other facets. As more and more people become interested in pursuing this avenue, more high-quality graduate degree programs are becoming available.
